Sonae in Trouble Again!
Kirkby Times is pleased that a worker, who cannot be named, has given us inside info on an incident today(3rd July 2002)
which concerns Sonae placing 'blast chimneys' on top of 5 massive silo's, the Firm neglected to ask planning permission( not the first time either)
to make these alterations. Kirkby times can report that one of the blast chimneys was dismantled today and the rest will shortly come down.
We have had serious reports of the level of disregard the Sonae management currently have to the community and those who work there.
There are several workers currently being involved in a massive clean up operation in the plant, not all Sonae employees's. Health and safety has gone out the window and we have reports of workers refusing certain jobs
due to dangerous work practices. The plant is currently stockpiling a massive amount of wood dust which apparently it has been getting at a cheaper price than usual.
The plant is full to the brim with possibly 1000's of Tons of this dust being stored there. Workers are employed to do nothing but clean the dust, brushing and sweeping it to the wind.
Other workers are employed to hose down the massive dust mountain, not just because of concern for the community but possibly due to threats to burn it down.
SHUT THE TOXIC DUMP DOWN!
DIRECT ACTION MAY BE NEEDED!
The poster below shows the Factory before and after the explosion, look at the way in which the dust pile has rose from a small hill, to a massive
series of wood dust mountains.
