Sonae was polluting the entire population of Northwood Kirkby and beyond today. (22 Oct 2003) The smell of the damn place is everywhere - you can't even leave a window open and walking on Windy Arbour field or riding up there on a bike is a NO GO due to the appalling level of pollution. This place is KILLING US. The smell was so bad it was painful to breathe it in. It's been like that more often than not of late. Anyone with slight sinus trouble will have revisited 'sinus headache hell' more than a few times of late due to the crap being threw out by Sonae. We must have had TONS of dust covering Kirkby the past couple of months - that combined with other Toxins and poisons is simply a kick in the teeth to a population which already has up to 30% reporting some long term illness or other. Cancer is also making a big impact here and Sonae may well have chosen such a sick cancer black-spot area so that they can pass the convenient buck. They can claim we already had high cancer rates - they are actually right - but why did Knowsley Council who were fully aware of this high cancer rate - then move a plant which stores a carcinogenic product (wood dust) out in the open to blow into our lungs? This is the UK's worse Council - Knowsley Council are absolute mercenaries when it comes to our health. Statistics on the national census website will confirm this.

The first video shows the smoke coming out of Sonae's various vents and pipes. It also shows how close Sonae is to the nearby residential area. The smoke does not just come out of the chimney - and this other smoke includes toxins possibly from heavy metals which we have so far not heard much about although some of the levels seem to be high and are not monitored from day to day. There smoke we can see may be coming from either drying vents where the wood is heated or from the vents from the incinerator device which actually burns wood, another fact not widely known nor pushed by KATS. The second video shows the wood dust mountains and the close proximity of the local residents. You can see the actual problem which Knowsley Environmental Officers have apparently spent great time and effort 'working on'. Neil Turner recently admitted that his officers found dust levels 'unacceptable' and that he was trying to determine 'the cause of the dust' - well Mr Turner, without being too cheeky - try looking at this website more often - and look at the latest video taken from a tower block about half a mile away. I can determine the source of the dust as can every other visitor to the Sonae Section of Kirkby Times. Everyone in Northwood knows the dust is coming from Sonae - and we know it's worse since you stopped Sonae workers constantly hosing down the dust which was then polluting the nearby waterways and water table below. The dust is stored outside - thousands of tonnes of it, blowing freely in the wind - for Gods sake Mr Turner, are you blind? What's going on with your department? If action is not taken soon I suggest we all contact the ombudsman to complain that our environmental officers are failing to answer our complaints. This is nothing personal but the buck stops somewhere and if our children are being condemned to breathe in the Sonae Toxic Pollution - then someone has to answer. Neil Turner is that man. We'll picket his office as well as Sonae if we have no more answers. Neil Turner, if he has any children, would have been first in the queue to form a protest group knowing what he does about the nature of the Sonae operation if it moved in his backyard. Or would he sacrifice his own children on the alter of profit? Over to you Neil - watch the video and tell me I'm being unreasonable.
