New Year, same old Sonae Pollution.
The Sonae
Factory has started the New Year by polluting the residents of Kirkby
and beyond with the Black Smoke which Sonae laughably try to claim
is steam. The Sonae Factory itself remained closed for the Christmas
period, this may have been due to maintenance but as reported on this
Website, Sonae loses a lot of money, reportedly £10,000 an hour when
the production lines are down
Video Evidence of Black smoke (again)
Kirkby Times can provide, once again, Video Evidence of the Black Smoke.
This footage was taken at approx 3.00pm on Friday 3rd of January. It
was shot near Quarry Green Shops which is a fair distance away. You can
click on the link below to download the video which is approx 1.4 mb in size and an mpeg fprmat.
Poisoning local Kids
The Schools are back soon, so once again the Kids of Northwood in particular
will be sucking up the poison in their delicate lungs. The photograph below
was taken by Simonswood School, you can see the Black Cloud clearly in the
background, if the wind is blowing towards the School, as it often is, the
consequences are predictable.
We need a Public Enquiry
Remember that Knowsley Council knew the reputation of Sonae when they
applied to open a factory here. There should be a Public Enquiry into
the whole affair. How the hell can a Local Council, supposedly concerned
with lung related disease here, allow a factory which has contradicted
itself time and time again when it comes to responding to criticism?
First they tell us the chimney only has 'steam' coming out of it,
then they tell us they will build the chimney bigger. If it's just
steam, why bother?
What happened to Public meeting in December?
This Website reported in Dec 2002 that there was to be a Public
Meeting to discuss the Knowsley Primary Care Trust's report which
gave Sonae 'a clean bill of health' as reported in the Liverpool
Echo on Dec 7th 2002. The Public Meeting never went ahead, which
was predicted by Kirkby Times. Kirkby Times will be pushing for
this meeting to go ahead, and for Dr Helen Forrest, the Author
of the report into Sonae, to be answerable to the local Community.
An unhappy New Year to Knowsley Councils management and Sonae Workers!
There will be more Sonae articles reports and eye witness accounts in the
coming year. Kirkby Times would like, at this point, to wish everyone who
helped bring Sonae here and all who work there, the very worse for the New
Year.
