Welcome to the Kirkby Times BIG CONVERSATION, pull up a
seat, light up a ciggy and take a sip of your tea. This BIG CONVERSATION is
between a fed up resident of Northwood Kirkby who hates Sonae and our MP
Mr George Howarth. Firstly we read Howarth's email and then have a look
at Joe's response to the comments. Right then, here goes the BIG CONVERSATION…………
Howarth's e-mail
Thank you for your email. I cannot see the point in being abusive.
You have repeatedly been assured that everything that can be done has been
pursued. That is not an excuse and it's grossly unfair to make offensive
remarks about people who are trying to resolve this important matter one
way or another.
As you have good reason to know, my own preference would be for
the factory to be closed down. However, if that is to happen the course
of action Neil Turner is following has to be followed first.
If you have any constructive or realistic alternative suggestions
as to how this matter may be resolved I would be grateful if you could let me know.
Your sincerely George Howarth MP, Knowsley North
(Ed -oh dear!- touchy touchy - lets see the response then!

)
E-mail to MR HOWARTH.M.P
Thank you for your reply to my latest e-mail
I have looked at the e-mail I sent to you and could not to my eyes see
anything that could be deemed to be abusive as you state in your reply.
Since then as always, Sonae has been spewing its dust ,smoke ,stench
and god only knows what else (cos you and Neil don't) over myself and
the poor people of Kirkby and the surrounding area. We have "REPEATEDLY
BEEN ASSURED THE EVERYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE IS BEING PURSUED" THIS IS
WHAT I CALL OFFENSIVE!
Kirkby vs Goliath
I also find it "GROSSLY UNFAIR" that we are the people who have to
endure the Sonae factory, not you, not Neil but the Kirkby people,
and we are sick to near death of having to fight for our little
piece of England: our homes and neighbourhood against the Goliath
called Sonae and have only been offered REPEATED ASSURANCES THAT
"ALL THAT CAN BE DONE WILL BE DONE" from you and Neil Turner and
we get explosions, near fatal accidents, pollution of surrounding
areas, you have all just looked the other way,( I know some of
this involves the H.S.E ) BUT NEIL TURNER HAS ONLY JUST NOW PUBLICLY
ACKNOWLAGED the fact that there is a problem, this after 4 years
and god know how much wasted money sending " AN OFFICER TO
INVESTIGATE THE MATTER" as is the usual reply to the people
who complain about the dust and stench.
A private affair
You yourself have attended countless meetings usually as
the chairman and only once was I or another outsider asked to attend ,you
,Neil, and other groups who seem to change there names weekly but not the
people who have the awkward questions, the meetings are never given any
publicity or are given the same as when the Sonae applied for planning
permission to heighten the stack,( one line in the Liverpool echo notice
board) you have my e-mail address, I am sure the editor of the KIRKBY
TIMES would be only to happy to post any information to let the people
know about times dates and venues of meetings, but no, you and Neil and
no doubt TONY HACKET would prefer a more private affair.
You state in your letter once again "YOUR PREFERANCE WOULD BE TO SEE THE
SONEA CLOSED DOWN "but have not made this fact public, but prefer the
clandestine approach and say it would not be constructive.
I say it would be constructive to the people of Kirkby to know that
the man who was voted to represent them in matters of this nature is standing
next to them getting covered in the same dust as they are, but it would appear
you are only the front man for the powers who really pull the strings.
You ask if I have "ANY CONSTRUCTIVE OR REALISTIC ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTIONS" and
"TO LET YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE".
The suggestions I have are maybe not ones you would agree with I think,
but here they are as asked for by yourself. Hope you find them of uses.
1) You should stand up in parliament and ask the environment minister
or help in removing the licence to operate from the Sonae under the environmental health act.
2) You could stand up in parliament and ask the home office minister for help
in removing the licence from the Sonae due to our human rights being broken.
3) You could publicly denounce the Sonae on national television and
bring attention to the plight of the Kirkby people.
4) You could publicly denounce the councillors who voted for the planning
permission to build the Sonae plant on the boarder with the Kirkby town its self.
5) You could make sure all meetings regarding the Sonae are held in
public and well publicised.
6) You could ask Neil turner to make ALL information on the
Sonae available.
7) You could make ALL previous minutes available to anyone
interested in the Sonae situation.
These are just a few suggestions and if you pose the same request in the
local news paper or Kirkby Times web-site you might get a few thousand more.
In closing let me make something quit clear to you, Neil turner
and the Knowsley Council: WE are the people of Kirkby, WE live here and WE are the ones
who are dying. Our young children are breathing the Sonae, eating the Sonae,
and sleeping the Sonae 24/7.
We do not want Neil turner to fine the Sonae Tens of thousands of pounds,
we don't want the Sonae to reduce the omissions to a "ACCEPTABLE LEVEL".
We want it taken down and rebuilt whereever you and your loved ones are
and then we will take bets on just how long it takes you and Neil to get it closed down.
Yours sincerely
Mr Williams, Northwood resident
Cc Neil Turner, Steve Gallagher
Kirkby Times Comment: Joe says it all - no comment needed apart from -
I agree! But seems as you got me thinking about Sonae I guess I'll put a
few digs in myself.
George Howarth is on over £100,000 a year for acting as our
representative - Joe doesn't just ask Mr Howarth the questions
he asks for himself - the questions and sometimes the answers
are for ALL of us. Those who read Kirkby Times are grateful that
Joe has at bought many important issues to the people of Kirkby.
His probing and prying is his legitimate right as an Englishman
- he is concerned about the community because he lives here unlike
Howarth or Neil Turner or many of the players involved in this bloody
mess. It's about time that the ordinary people of Kirkby were listened
to for once. We've taken enough crap off the halfwits of Knowsley
Labourite Sonae supporters.
