Local Council Stooges Say Sonae is Safe
The Sonae Factory has been
given a 'Clean Bill of Health' according to the Liverpool Echo. The result
of a pathetic 'investigation' and 'probe' by the obviously biased 'Knowsley
Primary Care Trust' was announced in the Echo on Friday Dec 07. Dr Diane Forrest,
the Primary Care Trusts unelected director of Public health will allegedly
be attending a Public meeting which is suspiciously close to Christmas.
Nonetheless, it is hoped she will get a rough ride and be told to sling
her hook once she has spewed forth the various pro Sonae propaganda.
Pen Pushing Do Nothing Beaurocrats
Let's get one thing straight here, the Knowsley Primary Care Trust
is a little known Government Quango, only established in Jan of 2002,
its role is hardly independent of the Government or Local Authorities.
Merseyside has one of the most complex Health Authorities in the UK due to 9
different regions being under the Umbrella of Merseyside Health Action
Zone. The opportunities for 'do nothing' beaurocrats are abundant. The
'officers' working for the Knowsley Care Trust are an unelected;
undemocratic Government appointed Body or Quango whose role in the Sonae
Whitewash was utterly predictable. Dr Diane Forrest is unlikely
to be able to experience the ill effects of Sonae given she does
not live in Kirkby, or likely even in Knowsley. No matter how
dangerous Sonae is to our short and long term health, there
will always be those who are prepared to say it's safe. 50
years ago, Forrest's equivalent would have been telling us
asbestos was harmless.
Dr Forrest, Away to the Woods?
Kirkby Times has not yet had a copy of the report so we cannot publish it as
of yet. Knowsley Primary Care Trust has not even established a website despite
having massive funding and being in possession of a lot of information which
should be online. The Echo's small piece on the as yet unseen report reveals
some interesting facts which don't quite add up. Dr Forrest ,aptly named due
to Sonae's involvement with destroying forests, admits that that Northwood
had 'a history of health problems' and despite the Industrial estate being
a stones throw from residents claimed that the long term health problems
'could be caused by all manner of things'.
'Experts' are a waste of space
Knowsley Council knew Northwood was subject to alarming polution
before they built Sonae, and Dr Forrester is simply an apologist for
Knowsley Council. She is partly funded by Knowsley Council and in April gave
a 'PowerPoint presentation' entitled "Breaking Down the Barriers, Building
Futures in Knowsley", the presentation took place in the Reebok Stadium,
Bolton, and the conference, attended by the North West's 'Care Trusts'
was titled 'Modernising Health and Social Care.'(ie: Destroying and privatising Health and social Care) Diana Forrest, Director
of Public Health here in Knowsley, took part with 3 other Officers of
the Trust to present what we are told was a 'long winded boring predictable
presentation.' Unbelievably the presentation concluded with this quote….. '…
to accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream; not only
plan but also believe' Well Dr Forrest, that's strange a collection of
pen pushing beurocrats like yourselves should quote from Anatole France,
a writer who in his later years questioned the inequalities of society.
The only 'great things' Forrest and her kind are pursuing are great wages.
Sonae doing nothing wrong!
Knowsley Council, recently prosecuted for their role in being caught polluting Knowsley
with raw sewage, declared through one of their mouthpieces Neil Turner that "We have
to work within the legal framework, and in this case, Sonae is doing nothing wrong"
The Sonae factory itself has been actively polluting as usual with vast clouds of
pollution being released at night time spreading for a massive distance. A fire
recently raged for over a month and was only stopped when relays of workers used
bulldozers and mechanical diggers to physically remove tons of burning dust, causing untold pollution
as they constantly doused the dust in water which drained off into the water
table and a nearby brook which passes right by the toxic plant.
Sonae looking to pollute the next generation
Toxic Sonae are looking to expand their operations further through the rail link, again
subsidised by European money. A lot is depending on Knowsley Council to
sweeten the situation by spin doctoring Sonae's devastating impact on
the community's health and the environment. If you believe the 'Care
Trust' is independent from the Council, you may believe the
'Housing Trust' is too. In reality, these 'Trusts' are all part
of the same system, a growing collection of 'Experts' are
always there to back up the claims of big business and industry.
The report from this latest 'Trust' here in Knowsley should be
treated with the contempt it deserves. Knowsley Council seem to be able to use the health issues here
to their own advantage in amassing grants off Central Government
which are in turn eaten away by Trusts
and experts. As a Local Taxi driver said "They (Sonae and Knowsley Council)
should be strung up"
