Kirkby Response Theater have put together a play about the Toxic Sonae Plant,
the play is titled 'Dead Fish and Chipboard' and is described as 'a comedy,
with music, which will take your breath away!' Anyone who see's the play can
write a review of it for inclusion here on Kirkby Times. All accounts so far
have been positive, but maybe you work at Sonae and think it's a load of
scouse propaganda?
The founder member of Kirkby Response theater is John Fay, who is currently
a writer for Manchester Soap Opera, Coronation Street. Well, it pays the bills we suppose
and at least John has put something back to Kirkby in giving his own time freely to pass
on his experience as a working class writer to those involved with the play. The premier
was at Kirkby Unemployed Centre, but other venues across Merseyside will also be showing
the play.
Comedy is a good way to attack the powers that be, but, it must be backed up with action.
Ridiculing the powers that be, big business and even the local Councillors gets
right up their noses. They hate it when we laugh at them - but laughing alone won't
help do much but annoy them - we've got to back it up with action. That will annoy
them more and endanger there little safe cosy Council seats up here. Hopefully the
play may become a springboard to seeing KATS become more pro-active on the issue of
Sonae. So far, the political elements here have buried there heads in the sand over
the issue. This is a shame - at one time Kirkby was a very radical place with people
prepared to speak out and act. KATS should maybe think of getting people to contest
Council seats next year. Parachuting behind enemy lines is as good a tactic as any.
We could actually do it as well.
Venues where Dead Fish and Chipboard is showing
7th June: Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts (LIPA) Mount St Liverpool 1 (7.30pm Start)

Its possible the play may show more as the Sonae issue is set to get heated
over the coming months with various parties becoming increasingly frustrated
by the complete lack of any democratic process here in Kirkby.
Remember, Kirkby Times is the ONLY website where you'll find a full
comprehensive range of articles regarding Sonae. Please forward all
written accounts of Sonae related problems, including letters to
Councillors and MP's etc. We appeal for Sonae Workers to also do their
duty and forward any concerns they have.
Look out for the Sonae Hate Brigade CD release available from Probe,
News From Nowhere and all the shop which will stock this controversial CD
of songs ALL tearing into Sonae like an angry Pit Bull on amphetamine. Grrrr.
Buy this record and let the hate flow.
Apologies for the late inclusion of this article. Please try to
send any news of any Kirkby related events in advance - it means the event
will reach more locals and the details can be always accessed on google ect
so people know that Kirkby has done something. Let's face it - the Councils
website is NOT going to advertise this play.
