Sonae's plans for raising the chimney to a height of some 85 meters have now been 'deferred'
by Knowsley Councilor's after we were told last week that Knowsley Councils Planning Committee
had given the go ahead to the insane plan. Sonae came up with the crackpot plan after initially
claiming the chimney only gave off 'steam'.
Knowsley Council cannot make up there minds.
There was controversy in December when Knowsley Primary Care Trust, a collection
of unelected beaurocrats, issued a report declaring all was well with Sonae. Dr
Helen Forester, a director in the Trust, even dropped out of a planned Public
meeting. One of Knowsley Councils mouthpieces, Neil Turner, immediately jumped
in to inform us all that "We have to work within the legal framework, and in this
case, Sonae is doing nothing wrong" This is to be expected as Knowsley Council
want Sonae to stay, come what may. They can spout fine words and talk about 'legal
frameworks' but we all know that Knowsley Council rode roughshod over the
democratic process to bring this polluting plant here. The money they earn
off Sonae is worth more than our health.
Council backtracks and admits 'steam' is actually 'smoke'
In the Liverpool Echo on Friday 17th Jan, Knowsley Council were mentioned as having
"demanded evidence to prove the move will work by dispersing smoke over a wide
area and relieve dust and smell problems for residents" It seems Knowsley Council
are backtracking yet again, one by admitting its actually 'smoke' not 'steam, and
secondly by acknowledging that dust is a big problem. Making the chimney 500 meter
high would not have the least effect on dust levels. As you can see below, the dust
is simply dumped onsite, left to blow freely round Kirkby. As for dispersing the
smoke over a wider area, it is an insane plan. Sonae are telling us that instead
of just poisoning Kirkby, they are going to spread the poison to include a wider
area. Real 'eco' logic there eh? Why crap on one doorstep when you can spread
it round. No wonder the UK has become a toxic dumping ground.
Below, the Sonae wood dust Mountain, or a very small part of it............
