Sonae 26th august 2003 smell of wood dust all over Northwood Kirkby

Sonae are back up there old tricks. The chimney has now begun to work again and was spotted polluting us again on the 24th August. On the evening of the 23rd there was a massive cloud of some smog like pollution coming from the vents which are situated to the left of the Chimney if you face the factory from Windy Arbour fields.

On the 25th of August, a Bank Holiday was spoiled by the toxic smell which was all over Kirkby. In the evening, the smell was so bad that residents up to one mile away were affected. Northwood as ever is hit hard by this pollution as it is in the direct wind path of the factory. People are forever complaining about the dust and the various smells which come from Sonae, it's getting beyond a joke.

Today on the 26th Aug 2003 - the smell of wood dust is blatant. Almost EVERYONE in Northwood can smell this crap; it can even be smelt as far away as the Town Centre!

Breathing the pollution for 2 years or so has already had an impact on the community, but Sonae know that the long term consequences of what they are doing will not be discovered for a long while. Enough time for them to bleed the town dry and scuttle off to the next poverty stricken area to hold out the begging bowl. Sonae take and give little in return. They take away our right to live in a clean environment and actually brag about how environmentally friendly they are. Knowsley Council are the same - they'll tell you they've won awards for being 'green' yet as we see Kirkby itself turned into one big estate with the odd bit of grass here and there, they don't seem so 'green' to us do they?
