Sonae's many vents were very active last night.(24th Aug 2003) This author rode
his bike up there just before midnight and I was shocked at the amount of pollution
which could be seen once I got to Windy Arbour Field opposite the polluting plant.
The chimney was still off but the massive mess of pipes and vents ALL seemed to be
very busy pumping out clouds of what looked like fog. Is it possible that the vents
of pipes etc where being cleaned? Whatever the pollution was, let's hope Knowsley
Councils environmental Officers may care to actually find out. At the end of the day
these people are simply workers who are here to serve the community NOT to serve the
wishes of Knowsley Council. They should be working to monitor this plant 24/7.
The train on Platform 1 is the 4.45am wood dust special.
As reported on Kirkby Times - it seems the development of the Railway link which benefits
Sonae more than most, will go ahead. 7 Million pounds from Northwood SRB funds have been
already been 'invested' in this scheme. This is money meant to alleviate poverty in the
Northwood Area. Money which could have been spent on our Old Folk or the kids. Does anyone
here in Northwood actually agree that this money should have been spent on Sonae? -
In effect were using SRB money to further pollute Northwood. Whether this may be
legal or not is beyond most of us - but it is IMMORAL.
SRB Funds and 99% versus 1%
The handfull of locals on this SRB committee should be ashamed of themselves for allowing such
a massive amount of this money to be used in this manner without ANY protest or
resignations. Jim Keight as usual had hidden motives when he placed himself
conveniently at the helm of this organisation. Most of the votes so far have
been made in private, no feedback is given, and few questions are asked.
Welcome to Democracy Kirkby Style. Where 99% of us say 'NO' but the 1% who
say 'yes' get their way. As another contributor to Kirkby Times said "It'd
actually be comical if it weren't so criminal." Good Luck! - We'll need it!
