The Annual Quarry
Green Seniors versus Juniors Football match took place today Sunday the 28th
Dec. The venue was Windy Harbor, and luckily the Sonae Toxic Chimney was
shut down on this particular day. The games pace was slowed down by a
continuous downpour of rain but the players were there to play football
come rain hail or shine. Windy Harbor has been the traditional home of
Sunday League Football here in Kirkby until it was sold off by Knowsley
Council to Liverpool FC. There only remain a few football fields which
are situated right next to Sonae, a polluting Factory which was built
despite 99.9% of us opposing it. Anyway, enough politics, lets get to
the Football!
The two opposing sides were made up from drinkers at Quarry Green Tenants
Club and the game kicked off at 12.00pm with the crowd anticipating a closely
fought game where a strong midfield was vital. There was controversy even
before the game began when a spectator told the Kirkby Times photographer
that "The Ref was bribed" Kirkby Times at this point, could see no evidence
of anything untoward at this point. That came later.
Below, the Crowd seemingly asking the referee to participate in dubious actions.
Offside Trap
The Offside Trap was played by the seniors on more than a few occasions,
the interplay between the senior's midfield and the defence led to the
juniors becoming frustrated by the continual offside trap. The seniors
hit the bar twice, glory being denied by the cruel luck of fate. The
Game was effectively closed down by the seniors with a continental style
play similar to the Germans. Pound for pound the seniors won the weigh
in hands down, this weight helped to wear down the youthful exuberance
of the juniors, who resorted to increasingly aggressive challenges as
the game wore on. One of the Quarry Green defenders spent the last 10
minutes playing on his knee's due to the tackles which took out his
legs from the knees down. The juniors were determined to win the game
at all cost, and as time ran out it appeared that they were prepared
to throw caution to the Sonae wind and resort to vicious Wayne Rooney
type tackles.

With 10 minutes to go the game was subject to one of the most controversial
refereeing decisions ever witnessed in Kirkby. The game looked evenly matched
and headed for a 0-0 scoreline. A fair result given the evenly balanced sides.
Then, out of the blue, the referee gave an offside against the seniors. The
juniors hoofed the ball upfront, senior players were clearly behind the ball,
but the referee blew offside as the players gathered round to point out the
stupidity of the decision. The crowd watched amazed as the juniors took the
free kick and scored a goal that can only be described as a fluke beyond
belief. The seniors were furious that the game had been turned by such a
dubious decision. The last 10 minutes saw the atmosphere soured by the
refereeing decision. One spectator told us that "It's just a fu**ing joke,
the juniors will be buying the ref a few pints tonight"
Kirkby Times can report that allegations of bribery may well be correct! We
took a series of exclusive photos which seems to show the ref being handed
a wad of money. Why would the referee be handed a wad of money? Perhaps
one of the juniors was repaying a loan and took the opportunity to do
so whilst playing. We will leave YOU to decide whether there is anything
untoward in this handing over of money to the ref whilst the game is in
motion. Only minutes after the money exchange, the referee awarded the
free kick. We have highlighted the referee's hand, and under magnification,
the evidence is as plain as can be. As one spectator told us "There's a
smell round here, not just Sonae, but the smell of corruption and bribery."
Below, the evidence speaks for itself. If photo's could talk this one would say the refs definitely
been bribed with cash,plus drinks.
