Northwood Residents Association Collapses with vote of No Confidence!

Northwood Residents Logo says 'Get Real and Stay Solid'

Picture Above: Get real and Stay Solid" the laughable logo said. How much money is left then?

How did this 'instant' organisation get hold of £65'000?

Vote of No Confidence

Northwood residents Association was formed just before the Council began to push the Sell Off of Local Council Housing. It seems very strange that this association seemed to be extremely quiet during the build up to the sell off process, and it is very likely it was a plan to divide any potential opposition to the transfer of our Housing stock. Thanks to Kirkby's gutless ranks of left wing has beens, there was not even a campaign against the sell off. Other tenants in Kirkby were amazed as this group got £65,051 to start an organisation, the constitution of which, was likely a Council Template. We need to know exactly WHO is on these commitee's which can at the drop of a hat fund a organisation with no track record to such a massive slice of the pie. Northwood SRB Money is controlled by all the usual suspects, a mixture of the Council and Big Business with a few nodding dog locals who have had more payouts than a broken one arm bandit. We need an Independent Tenants Group with Guts, not the usual muppets who flit from committee to commitee waiting to die from politically induced boredom. We need a tenants group to actually fight for the tenants, not have cosy chats with the Housing Officers or management.

Local Left in Dis array

Knowsley Housing Trust needs a good bloody kick up the backside, but the truth is a lot of the Political players up here are too busy lining their own pockets and were disgraceful in their collective apathy concerning the actual Sell Off of the Housing in the first place. Unusual for them to miss a chance to protest at privatisation, its all they ever done during the Maggie years. Funnily enough, Thatcher never compromised her politics and despite being a phycopathic mass murdering piece of trash, in some ways she was more honest than the Left who criticised her for 18 years, then let Blair get away with stuff Maggie only dreamed of.

Where's All the Money Gone?

Kirkby Times will be asking how much is left from the £65,051 pounds awarded this sad excuse of an Association. And why the Commitee of the Residents Association's commitee had been voted a vote of 'No Confidence'.Its no use hiding the facts, otherwise most people will presume something untoward has occurred.Has it? and why was the matter was not made Public in Northwood House's Glossy 'News' paper? Kirkby Times is fast becoming THE place to get the news no-one else will publish! The commitee of Chris Ashton, Anna Owens and Lynne Whelen lost to a vote of no confidence, in a 'special meeting'. Here's the Story from a leaflet only distributed in Oct of 2002, thats 8 months of silence, real democracy eh.

Northwood area Residents Commitee Kicked Out!, what really gone on then?

On 25th Feb this year, a special meeting of Northwood Residents took place. At this meeting a vote of no confidence against the commitee of Northwood Residents was taken. Further to this a number of residents signed up to form an interim commitee. This Interim Commitee met on the 18-03-2002 and an official takeover of the offices held by the previous residents association at Northwood House was carried out. Since that date the Interim Commitee have undertaken training and devised an action plan. The basis of that action plan was to formally elect a new commitee (undemocratic, it wasn't advertised)that would develop an open and accountable approach to working with local residents. On 10th July a new Commitee was elected and the name of the group was changed to Northwood Area Residents Association. The following residents have been elected..... Chair: George Rowe, Secretary: Nicola Daniels. Treasurer: Marie Williams.

Question: Is this just one more commitee which is looking for a ride on the funded gravy train? So far the only affiliation the new Volunteer Group have is to the Federation of independent Advice centre's(check them)The group will be continued to be funded by the SRB (more £60,000 give-aways anyone?) and we will report back on who exactly is pulling the strings and why.It will be interesting to see the aims and objectives and constitution as well. Most organisations in Kirkby start up for one main reason: Grants. they start up, pick an issue to campaign on, offer to volunteer, then fight each other when the first paid Jobs come through.

The answer to the issues raised here will come very soon as Kirkby Times looks for legal help for tenants in High Rise Blocks.

Below, the membership form for Northwood residents version One.No-one wanted to know, and little wonder. Residents Groups should be run 100% by the residents with 100% accountability.

We have no political accountability in Kirkby.Too many political players here have too much to hide themselves. There's say that in politics the crap always rises to the top, its true that radical Working Class politics on Merseyside right now is at a low a point as its ever been.

Lynn Whelan and Chris Aston were 'Community Representatives' on the SRB commitee. Jim Keights on it too, he seems to be on every commitee going.Heres a list of the usual suspects below.

The Partnership Board is an unincorporated body. It meets regularly and all members have equal voting rights. Members of the Partnership Board now hold office for a period of two years. At the base date of the evaluation the Partnership Board had a membership of 15 -

Councillor Jim Keight (Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council)
Councillor Jane Aston (Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council)
Councillor Jack Bennett (Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council)
Paul Arista (Merseyside Learning and Skills Council)
Pat Cooney (Northwood Headteachers)
Elinor Dodd (Employment Service-thanks for harrasing the Unemployed!)
Doctor Colin Ford (Kirkby PCG)
Stuart Kernohan (Merseyside Police)
Maureen Dunwoody
(Community Representative, had several SRB grants.more info soon!)
Keith Hassell (Kirkby Pathways Community Representative,is funded by srb to run Enviromental task team
Hugh Jones (Knowsley Community and Voluntary Services)
Lynn Whelan (Chris Aston) (Community Representative)
Brian Williams (George Rowe) (Community Representative)
Seamus Brady (Chamber of Commerce)
Stuart Munro (Chamber of Commerce) (Steve Dumbell)

Of the total of 15, at most 4 or 5 are actually from Northwood. They are hand picked because they'll tow the line, plus, they have vested intrests. Heres one of the latest SRB grants below, er, surprise surprise!, its for a member of the SRB commitee.Welcome to Kirkby!........................

Local and not so local experts in milking a few quid from whatever funds are availiable.

We aren't sure yet of the grant awarded to 'Busy Bee's Launderette' but Maureen Dunwoody assured us it will be "A Real Community Launderette". Does it do the laundry Free for pensioners then? Or is it just another commercial business which has the unfair advantage of being subsided? ~A New Labour version of capitalism.

The Northwood Residents incident seems to have been covered up by the local players. Its not the only time dodgy happenings have occurred and no-one knows the outcome.
