Murder: Are Killers being given Joke Sentences?

This article takes a look at some Murders involving Locals, be they the victim or perpetrators. Kirkby Times is saying the LAW as it stands is a JOKE. You can decide for yourselves.

Life is cheap in Kirkby

Life is cheap in Kirkby. You can be killed for £10 and no-one would think to call it an injustice apart from those close to the victim. Life is cheap because a growing number of people round here have little or no respect for themselves and others. We have grown used to a culture of violence which dictates that might is right, where security guards protect the local sweetshop and the average 5 year old is aware of drug addiction.

A Death that hardly made the papers.

One example of how cheap life is was seen recently with the Murder of Tommy Draper(RIP), a 43 year old Kirkby Man who, like a lot of people here, was addicted to Heroin. Whilst reporting restrictions are in place we cannot give you the full details of this Murder. The newspaper cutting below is all that was mentioned in the local Media. Just over 60 words printed below in an instantly forgettable article.

"A man has been charged with the Murder of Tommy Draper, Thomas Kirby,19 of Whitefield drive Westvale has been remanded in custody and awaits trial. A 21 yr old man was also questioned over the Murder, and Police in Kirkby made house to house inquiries in the local area questioning anyone over the age of 10 on the incident."

Drug Dealing a Career choice

Kirkby times wishes to express its condolences to Tommy's Family and friends. He did not deserve to die this way. The Police are never going to prevent too many people from murdering, nor can they have any influence on the violent culture which has increased in Kirkby along with the availability of class A drugs and weapons. A lot of local Youth are caught up in a no win situation. They leave sub standard schools with little skills to land themselves a decent job. Dealing drugs is a career choice here, as it is in every Working Class town and estate in the UK. The gradual decline of the community here can be traced to the Thatcherite Philosophy of "F*** thy Neighbour". Yes we may have Mortgages and a few of the little luxury's which were once just the domain of the middle classes, but along with material possessions and the worship of profit comes a viciousness which will translate into more senseless Murders in this relatively small town of Kirkby.

James Bulger's Killers

James Bulger, a victim of the senseless violence we face, lets draw a line.

However much the level of poverty and social deprivation plays a role in violent crime, we need to have a system of sentencing where the sentence reflects the crime. Sentencing is a lottery in this Country, and there needs to be a level playing field when it comes to this Country's laws. The fools who currently decide on sentencing have shown themselves to be remote from the majority of ordinary people. The James Bulger(RIP)(see here) Murder was perhaps one of the most blatant examples of this remoteness. The Killers were rewarded for their evil act, and received a far superior education than most kids here in Liverpool. They will be afforded the protection that they denied to poor James. They will have a start in life the Youth in Kirkby would love to have. University apparently awaits the killers of James. An army of social workers and psychologists will be talking of the 'progress made' and I just hope and pray that the killers they were are now no more. Even if they are no longer of a mind to kill, the fact remains that they never paid their dues. The time they served was not enough. That's why the People of Kirkby in particular will never forgive these killers. And why we will continue to despise the Judges like Lord Woolf who, as we will see below, seems to have made a name by his lenience to vicious killers. One also wonders if Thompson and Venables would have been killers had there education and home circumstances been better. There's a saying "give me the child and I'll give you the man" Unfortunately Good Education costs money which the Government are not prepared to spend. They need it for War. In effect, the money there to educate children is to be spent killing them instead. This is part of the insanity we must deal with if we are to really change what's happening.

Lord Justice Woolf, a danger to the community

The Murder of Frank Green outside Kirkby Police Station.(RIP)

Another Vicious Murder in Kirkby which demonstrates the stupidity of the Law and in particular, Lord Justice Woolf's insane reasoning, was the Murder of Frank Green, 50 who was viciously stabbed to death outside Kirkby Police Station in 1996 in front of two Policemen. The murder occurred after Frank spotted 3 young men damaging his car with a Knife. Frank who lived in Birchmuir Hey, right by Kirkby Police Station, caught the 3 men and was taking them to the Police Station when one of the men, Anthony Prayle 18, stabbed Frank Green 7 times. This vicious murder and the ferocity of this mindless attack on a decent man appalled locals and Police alike. Prayle repeatedly stabbed Frank Green with the knife, causing a fatal wound through the heart. Prayle actually denied it all and tried to blame one of his companions - but two police officers, along with his ex friends or companions saw everything. The sentence given to Prayle after his initial Trial was life, BUT, it was life with a recommendation to serve at least 12 years. A joke sentence in itself but it gets worse. A lot worse.

Lord Woolf: A Fool of the Highest Degree

On June 12th of this year (2002) Anthony Prayle, now 24, had his sentence reduced to 10 years by Lord Justice Wolfe at the London High Court. Lord Woolf said Prayle deserved the reduction because of his "considerable progress" in custody. He said the murderer had "matured considerably" after taking numerous courses including anger management, decision making and personal development. Lord Woolf is proof that we need to change the whole system of Law Making. Any local here would have made a stipulation that Prayle serve life, with an option for release when he is old and grey. After the sentence, Frank Greens son said "If you take a life you should serve life in prison" No-one in Kirkby would ever have given the ok to a 12 year sentence, and to reduce it further is utter insensitivity to Mr Greens Family who attended the hearing, far from Kirkby in London. Woolf is a disgrace to the very name Justice. So too is the system which regards the murders of working class people as relatively unimportant. Had Prayle chosen to stab a Judge or Policeman to death, it is certain the sentence would have been a lot more.

The Murder of Gaynor Peterson(RIP

Another vicious killing recently was the murder of Gaynor Peterson, 38. The murder was a vicious unprovoked attack on a defenseless Woman whose flat was the venue of a Party on the night of the murder. John Lowrie repeatedly plunged a kitchen knife into her throat as she lay asleep on a couch. Lowrie who was a frequent visitor to the flat told another terrified male guest 'I am going to kill her', he then pulled a knife from the waistband of his trousers and thrust the weapon into her neck four times in quick succession. Later Lowrie told police: "It was stupid. I don't know why I did it." He was sentenced and started a life sentence on February 2002, after a jury convicted him of murder. The Judge presiding was Mr Justice Gross. The 'Life' sentence may well be reduced and if Lord Justice Woolf gets his way we'll probably see him out sooner than later.

The Killing of Albert Mudd (RIP)

Another Kirkby Murderer was sentenced to 'Life' in March 2001 after another vicious murder, this time, a poor old age pensioner was the victim. Dawson, a small-time criminal from Kirkby, shoplifted to fund his drug addiction and was well-known for hawking stolen goods around the city's pubs. Albert Mudd, a quiet pensioner from Fazakerley (near Kirkby) was knifed five times by Dawson. He attacked his 72-year-old victim in alleyway just yards from the victim's house in Karong Road, Fazakerley, Liverpool. The pensioner, known locally as 'The Bitter Man', was returning home when he was killed just because Dawson decided "to see if I had it in me". Indeed he did, and let's hope this loser spends a long long time regretting it. No doubt there will be some idiot who thinks life is too harsh. But we have to make sure that anyone who commits a vicious murder is given a sentence which in some way reflects the seriousness of what they have done.

Start anew. Tear up the Law books, Sack the Judges.

Whilst this article may call for harsher sentencing in certain cases, it has to be recognized that each murder has its own circumstances and not all murders are the same. This article only covers murders by individuals, other pages on this website mention murders by corporations, companies and even Governments. For now though, the focus is on the people of Kirkby, and Kirkby Times will be looking more at what can be done to tackle these issues. The murders outlined here are only a few, and of course for every person killed there are numerous more who are injured and traumatised. Whilst Lord Justice Woolf settles down to whatever nice environment he goes home to, you wonder whether the man actually realises what the people of Kirkby and thousands of more Working Class Towns and estates have to endure. Of course, we know he doesn't, nor do the ranks of gutless MP's and the rest of the nodding dogs who have run this country to the ground. It's important for Working Class people in particular to recognize that the system of Law we have comes from a not too distant past where the Upper Classes simply put into writing a way of protecting their property from the poor. We need to tear up those dusty old books, write a constitution and start anew. Until the people of this country have the power to change the law, we will see little change. With people like Woolf at the helm, Justice will just be a meaningless word.
