Mobile Phone Masts, Knowsley Council Risking our Health for a Profit?
As you can see The Council here are quite happy to let the locals risk their health by in effect being part of a mass long term experiment
into the health risks generated by those living, in this case, exreme proximity to one of these controversial devices.
It is amazing that we can read of reports into the dangers of just using a mobile phone.
The controversy involving the dangers from mobile phone masts or towers has not been something that Knowsley Council seem to have paid much attention to. The Council has decided in its wisdom to just let some local tenants test out the long term effects of being situated only a few feet away from mobile phone masts.
Where there has been an outcry in other parts of Liverpool at the positioning of these masts close to schools ect, Knowsley Council just wade right on in there and stick a couple of Mobile Phone Transmitter masts on top of Larch Tower and Maple tower in Northwood Kirkby. The Council receive a few thousand form the mobile phone companies and as the photographs clearly show, they are situated directly above the heads of the unfortunate tenants. The Two Blocks chosen for this experiment are the worse of the row of 4 blocks, and the tenants who may have stood up to this are long since gone.
To put these Phone masts on top of a residential living area is a chilling reminder of how the authorities big and small seem to all tow the line when it comes to matters of public safety. Often, we see products or technologies that are declared safe although there is doubt. The Mobile Phone Companies are cutting costs in working class areas by simply using work or residential buildings to erect these masts because it saves them the considerable cost of renting land and building towers to accommodate the masts. The New Labour Government was ripped off on the deal it struck. The Government have to say its safe, they are being pressured to do so by the phone companies. The Phone Companies have to say its safe, big business will lie even if it means killing a few people, the profits are too big.
We can only expect Knowsley council to agree with the phone companies; after all, it's a few quid in the Council coffers and maybe a few free mobile phones for the councilors. Knowsley Council will side with any big business when it comes to local health issues. We've only got too look at Sonae to see that the wishes and health considerations of the local community are just a minor irritation to them.
Its funny how there's been a lot of articles in the national media which highlight some of the concerns of those who believe the phones themselves to be dangerous to the health of the user. If a single phone causes such speculation, then a full blown transmitter/receiver on a mast must be cause for concern indeed if it is positioned a few feet from a occupied premises
If Jim Keight and the committee responsible for renting out the top of these tower blocks thinks that the masts are 100% safe, why didn't they earn themselves a few quid by having them fitted on top of their own bloody roofs?. We could also suggest a place where they can all stick the offending masts if they cannot manage the rooftops.
Seriously though, this is playing with people lives and is a disgraceful way of earning a few quid off the phone companies at the risk of our possible future health concerns. These masts should be taken down immediately and situated a safe distance away from any residents or workers. Better to be safe than sorry, lets put our health before the chance of a quick buck.
