Stolen Cars, the Danger continues
On the 5th of Nov there were a number of dangerous incidents involving a stolen car which crashed at
least twice before ending up in the side of a Coach traveling in Westvale
near the Sports Center. The photograph below shows the stolen car smashed, the car robber ran from the smashed up car and
made good his escape running over to the nearby river Alt. The police Helicopter turned up approx 15
mins after the final crash. The stolen car was chased through Kirkby at approx 8.30am.
Below, Police inspect the damage caused by the impact of the crash
Local Woman had to be cut from Car by Fireservice
Before the crash with the coach, the stolen car is believed to have been involved in an earlier incident when
a local woman was freed by the Fireservice after a stolen car smashed into her car. The woman was terrified, and despite her injuries not being life threatening, the incident has
clearly shocked her. The Car, which we have no photo's of, was a total write off. The scum who drive recklessly endangering the lives of local people and stealing cars from locals should be
taken to an autopsy of a victim of a road accident.
Are Police acting correctly?
It seems that the Police policy on pursuing stolen cars is more guidelines than Law.
There have been of late, a number of incidents where the Police have been involved in serious accidents in pursuing stolen cars.
The incident covered on this web page was, by all accounts, one in which the Police were again involved in a high speed chase
which was particularly dangerous due to the fact schools were opening. Of course, if left
unhindered, the Car Thieves would continue to race around at high speed. The problem must be tackled and
the Police must be very careful they are not caught up in the excitement of these chases. As Kirkby Times reported recently
the Police have been involved in chases which have been noted at up to 100mph in built up areas.
It would be better for Police
with a local knowledge of the area to pick a spot where the car would pass and stop it in its tracks.
But many of the chases seem to be participated in by Police who have little tactical approach beyond hurtling after the thieves and
no knowledge of the area.
Local community leaders should be pro-active in ensuring the youth of Kirkby have something better to do than rob cars to have a nights entertainment.
Suggestions made by locals are generally ignored, and many of us are wary of becoming involved in local decision making due to the
undemocratic and dishonest political culture that exists here.
