Kirkby Times is more than willing to draw attention to the recent attacks by the Sun Gutter Rag on the Fire Brigade. Not surprisingly, the Sun or SCUM as its known in Merseyside, has decided to approach the strike guns blazing for Blair and as usual employing its well known tactic of attacking any Union which dares to ask for more than 2 0r 3% payrises. The Journalists who work for the Sun, are not only paid more than the Fire Brigade, they have actually deluded themselves that they are some sort of service to society. Its time now for a new generation of Merseysiders and indeed anyone in the UK and beyond to Boycott this Gutter Rag. Through the Internet we can help to destroy the monopoly the mass media hold on passing on information.

Here in Kirkby, we can be proud that our own Boycott and Public Burning of the Sun (see below) back in 1989 raised consciousness amongst working class people as to the way the paper was used to try and manipulate public opinion. Many in Kirkby still Boycott the Gutter Rag since the 89 Hillsborough Accusations which saw the SCUM stoop to levels of journalistic muck raking which it seems they have now come full circle to once again. The Boycott in Kirkby came from the heart. It wasn't a political stunt, the anger at the Suns articles continues still. This incident with the Suns latest kick in the teeth to the Fire Brigade should remind us once again that little has really changed since 1989. Working class people in the UK are still subject to Class Prejudice which see's us treated like second class citizens. We cannot afford to underestimate the Power of the media and it is up to working Class people to deny the Media its power by simply boycotting those papers which attack us.

Below,on the 19th of April 1989, The Sun decided to release a copy of their paper which accused Liverpool fans of 'robbing the dead' and 'killing their own' and being entirely to blame for the Hillsborough Disaster. however, Local Woman, many who had heard at first hand the events from those lucky to return, were furious at the blatent Lies printed by the SCUM in 1989.
