Knowsley Housing Trust (KHT) are targeting some of the poorest people in society by refusing to carry out much needed repairs and improvements on there homes.

KHT which was created by the council to access millions of pounds in grant money from the government is now refusing to carry out any improvements on the homes of tenants who have fallen into rent arrears.

What exactly does this achieve? The families that can not afford to catch up on there debt will be punished for not having enough money and have to live in worsening conditions, their bills will increase trying to heat draughty inefficient houses, money that could be used to paid off their arrears.

If the families can not clear their arrears do the KHT throw them into the street, or do they continue to let them stay there with the house slowly falling apart? The first option is abhorrent and the second will be detrimental to their housing stock and eventually increase the cost of improvements.

I am sure KHT will be able to claim they have spent millions on their housing stock, and council housing may have had its problems, but this is another example were privatising a public service gets into difficulty as soon as the public do not conform to the business plan.
