St Kevin's field is being
destroyed. The contractors have been there for a couple of months and a great deal
of the field itself is now lost. There are plans to build football fields and a
tennis court for Roughwood School apparently - but they will be fenced off and not
free access public fields. More houses will be built on the remaining land. This takes
away the very heart of Northwood in some ways - the last bit of green field which was
situated far enough from Sonae (if the wind blows the right way) to get some fresh
air. Knowsley Council don't give a damn, they never have and never will. The Judas
Councillors who sold out the heart of Northwood can be found here.
Contractors break Health and Safety Guidelines
Part of the site has deep excavations and only one warning sign
was visible whilst other areas where excavations were going ahead were
not even fenced off. The local kids had smashed some of the flimsy fence to
gain access but other areas were open to the public. Kids were playing freely
whilst I took the photographs of St Kevs ripped up. No security was visible.
I would say health and safety guidelines are being breached. The application
of regulations will depend on the presence of a reasonably foreseeable risk
of serious injury - the photographs above and the one below show what seems to be a risk of
danger……………..
Jim Keight and the Kites
Jim Keight, the failed ex leader of Knowsley Council, once announced in the Kirkby
Challenge that the field was hardly used - apparently he turned up one day and didn't
like what he saw. As the photographs will show - there were people using the field
when I was there - a couple of families were out flying kites - and a group of lads,
some in their 30's or so were playing a game of football. There were at least a dozen
kids playing and smashing up bits of the building site, they had bikes and a football
but decided to have few hours messing about on the building site. A couple were out
walking - holding hands and enjoying the sunny afternoon - an old man was walking a dog.
Below, people flying kites, it'd be better to see Keight on the end of a rope!
