Residents who
are living opposite the ongoing destruction of St Kevin's field are going through
hell as pollution from the site affects them. One resident spoke to Kirkby Times
and spoke about his concerns. Mr Myers, who lives opposite the building works on
Roughwood Drive, has spent the past 8 weeks or so fighting a losing battle
against the dust which is blowing freely from the building works.
Below: this photo shows my finger which is black with dust after wiping it along
a window sill INSIDE a house opposite St Kevin's.
The pollution is so bad that local man is prescribed anti biotic's to
deal with a bad chest
This dust pollution is so severe it has coated the inside of his house covering
furniture, windowsills even and even the sheets and has forced the occupant to move
to a small back bedroom. A new Sofa was visibly discoloured and the dust is affecting
his health.
The pollution is so bad that Mr Myers had been prescribed anti biotic's to
deal with a bad chest. Mr Myers told Kirkby Times that 'I feel like shuttering up
the house and staying elsewhere whilst all this work is going on - it's a nightmare".
Kirkby Times was allowed to photograph inside the property and the dust was indeed
everywhere, and our photographs, which will be passed to a solicitor, are proof
enough that this is a level of pollution which Mr Myers and others should be
compensated for.
Below - imagine having to live opposite a site entrance where so far 4000 Vehicles have gained access. Thanks to Knowsley Council local residents are not
only robbed of a playing field, they are now having to seek medical treatment due to the volume of dust which
is polluting there homes.
400 vechicles and thousands of tons of building materials
The volume of traffic which has entered the site through the entrance
on Roughwood Drive numbers some 4000 vehicles.(going in and out of the site=8000) Thousands of tons of earth and
other materials have been transported there. There is no notice on the site explaining
what's going on, and our Councillors have been there usual quiet selves on this and
other issues concerning pollution in Northwood. This isn't good enough and we hope
Knowsley Council have a good explanation as to why residents are suffering
intolerable condition in their own homes.
Knowsley Council sent out an official from the Environmental Dept to look into
Mr Myers problems on July 12th of this year. But it is now almost a month later and
there has been little done. The contractors who are digging up St Kevin's are obviously
polluting the local community and there are residents nearby who are living under
intolerable conditions. The majority of us never wanted to lose St Kevin's field
but it is obvious the Council don't give a damn for our wishes. Whilst St Kevin's
is being built it is the responsibility of Knowsley Council to ensure minimum
disturbance to nearby residents. This is clearly not happening.
A copy of this report has been e-mailed to Knowsley Council Environmental
officers plus local Councillors.
