The old Liberal Club in Southdene has been burned to the ground. The Fire took place on Thursday 6th Feb in the afternoon. No report made it into the local media despite the fire being pretty big and affecting local residents.

There seems to be a habit of drinking establishments catching fire here,(spontaneous bar room combustion maybe) in a few months we have seen the Molly, Peacock, 12/5 and now this Club being burnt. Luckily this latest fire never caused any injuries to anyone, as far as we know. Arson itself is becoming more popular, with cars especially making up massive numbers in malicious fires. This of course stretches the Fire Service and could lead to disaster if fire breaks out elsewhere. There will also be great inconvenience to regulars and more importantly will mean the end of employment for those who worked there. It's possible it may be an accident, either way it's another part of Kirkby taken away from the community and a sad day for some people.
