Knowsley
Housing Trust, always good for a laugh, have recently surpassed the comedy,
some would say tragic comedy, which has become standard fare in their responses
to the tenants. KHT have given some very funny answers to questions asked, but
this latest one is a real classic.
A tenant was showing a KHT staff member round a Tower Block and
pointed out, amongst dozens of problems, the build up of pigeon
crap which has accumulated on windows as well as a lot of the outside
structure. The KHT worker reckoned that the actual Windows covered in
crap were 'self cleaning'. That's what he'd 'been told' he added.
Really? Self Cleaning? How about Self Deluded? KHT really are top
of the league when it comes to insane excuses. You couldn't make
this stuff up. The 'Self -Cleaning windows' fit in well with the
'security 'which is presumably 'self securing' Classic stuff.
It's sort of spin doctoring beyond spin doctoring.
KHT and the Tenants of certain Tower Blocks have been long aware of the problem of
pigeons crapping on the Tower Blocks. Over time this causes a heavy build up of
pigeon crap, which is clearly visible in the photo below.
Whilst the answer given does make you laugh, the attitude of KHT to the
build up of this excrement is negligent if not illegal. Look at the
following quotes on the problem….
Amongst the many diseases spread by pigeons and their droppings are
psittacosis, ornithosis, cryptococcal meningitis, listeriosis,
aspergillosis, and encephalitis"
Dr. Chris Feare, Central Science Laboratory, MAFF (UK)(1995
"Feral pigeons roosting and nesting on buildings, parapets and structural
ledges, create extensive damage and generate perilous safety situations,
unsanitary conditions and serious health hazards with the accumulation of
their faeces"
U.S. Department of Agriculture (1994)
Below, not a pretty sight, more pigeon mess accumulates on a Tower Block
KHT's own obligations in their tenancy agreement clearly indicate
that this pigeon mess is in breach of the agreement and of course
it presents a danger to people's health which will be covered by
health and safety laws.
