School Strikes could hit Kirkby

if the kids are united they will never be defeated

Kirkby Times has been informed that Kids in Kirkby may well be organising Anti War protests following the anti war protests by school kids in the UK. There were protests today, Wednesday the 5th of March 2003 in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Cambridge and Milton Keynes and maybe more places as yet unreported.

A Shining Example

These Children are a shining example to us all and deserve to congratulated for having the guts to make a stand against Tony Blair. In London, hundreds of pupils actually made it to Downing Street and blocked traffic outside. Police were caught by surprise and it must be said that the pictures of Police on Channel 5 news showed them to be arresting or dragging away these youngsters. Any Policeman nicking a young anti war protestor ought to be absolutely ashamed of themselves. One of the Pupils at the Downing Street demo told reporters he was "expecting to get detention". Kirkby Times would give him a medal.

Its No good sitting in front of TV

Some headmasters will be against these protests. One Headmaster, Martin Henson of Fortismere School in North London told the BBC "It is irresponsible and dangerous to do this", other less stuck up people were jubilant, including a pupil who told the BBC "There is no good sitting in front of your television if something like this is going on - you have to get up and do something." School-kids have a choice, they can either stay in school and listen to some History Teacher tell them about Politics, or they can be part of history by walking out and protesting.

Kirkby's Proud tradition of School Strikes and Protests

Kirkby had a massive series of strikes and protests in schools in the 80's with the anti YOP scheme protests (youth opportunity scheme) This author was proud to have been one of the kids from St Kevin's who stood up to Thatcher as a 15yr old. We all went on strike, hundreds from one school! Good luck to any pupils in Kirkby who are against War. Looking at the recent inter-school gang fights, it may be best if these schools here and elsewhere united and protested against the war. After all, you're the ones who the Politicians would send in a few years to be killed.

Good Luck.
