Kirkby times raised the matter of mobile phone masts early in 2002, but the
matter was ignored by Councillors despite Kirkby Times providing graphic proof that the
proximity or mobile phone antenna was extremely dangerous. In some Countries it would be illegal
to have phone antenna so close to people. In Australia the distance a phone mast should
be situated from residential areas is 500 Metres! But not in the UK, here it's 5 Metres
or less. What the hell are Knowsley Council playing at?
Residents promised 'no phone mast'
Residents in Westvale,Kirkby have been betrayed once again by the council, who, this
time have started work on a mobile phone mast they were promised would not be built.
Where there has been an outcry in other parts of Liverpool at the positioning of
these masts close to schools ect, Knowsley Council gave permission for a couple of
Mobile Phone Transmitter masts on top of Larch Tower and Maple tower in Northwood
Kirkby about 15 foot from the heads of people living there!. (Also on Quarry Green
heights) Therefore it comes as little surprise to see that Knowsley Council have
tried to give permission for another mobile phone mast erected close to residents.
Another Petition ignored by Knowsley Council.
Hundreds of people signed a petition against the mast near Kirkby station, and
Knowsley council said planning permission would not be given. However, the
Council here often ignore petitions, and the safety of local residents comes
a poor second with profit being the No 1 consideration. Apparently officers
from Knowsley Council (who should be named) allowed the time period for objections
to run out and diggers arrived on site.
Community Action in Kirkby
Residents took some direct action for once and promptly parked their cars over
the area to stop the work, no mast was erected and reports from locals point to
cables having been laid but no other work completed. Today on Monday 10th Nov the
mast had still not been erected. Passers by informed me that Knowsley Council were
'idiots' and 'are putting our health in danger' - who could disagree?
Below - it's likely Steve Gallagher the Cheif Executive/Fat Cat of Knowsley Council would disagree.
Knowsley Council aware of the problems!
A spokesperson for Knowsley Council told the Echo "We are aware of the problem
but are in active negotiations with the mobile phone company to try and get it sorted out.

"
Knowsley Council seem to find great difficulty in 'sorting things out' as much of the
beleaguered population of Knowsley could testify.
FACTS
In 1995 the New Zealand Environment Court set a 'precautionary' safety level measurement
for mobile phone masts emissions - it was 500 times LESS the safety limit set here
in the UK!

Network goes down!
Villagers in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands Residents blame a
similar phone mast for a spate of serious illnesses among residents, including
cancer cases. They have campaigned for the mast, operated by mobile phone company
T Mobile, to be taken down. The 22-metre mast fell down on Bonfire Night after
bolts were removed from the base of the structure.
