To the people of
Kirkby if you are like me you shop around for the cheapest - albeit food, shoes, clothes ECT and fuel for the car.
You see the cheapest fuel and go to the station grab the pump stick it in the car and away
you go with the knowledge you are saving some money because you can see the price of the
fuel on the pump display. But are you getting the fuel you think you're paying for or
are you being ripped-off? Do you ever think to check if the pump is set to give you
the correct amount of fuel (if it says 75p per litre do you pay 75p or are you being
ripped -off)
Ripped Off - how 75p becomes 77p
This happened to me a few days ago I will not name the garage, but the Pear Tree pub is close
by.( hint ) I pulled up to the pump - the fuel was 75p per litre so I put the
nozzle into my car and put in just 1 litre expecting the price to be 75p. So imagine
my surprise when the display on the pump said 77p.
Turning our pennies into there pounds
I went inside the station to ask why, but the young girl just looked
blank and said she would tell her boss in the morning. Now you might say it
was only 2p over the odds per litre but the manager would be selling fuel
24hrs a day, thousand of litre a day if you fill your car up. Let's say
you filled up with 30ltr, well, you just got ripped-off by 60p. If someone
short changed you by 60p you would be right on to them and get your money
back. The people who own these petrol stations are making a huge amount
of money just running the station normally but that's still not enough
for some.
So, next time you fill up just put one litre in your tank and check the price
is right because life is hard enough without being ripped-off by unscrupulous people.
And don't forget to let the weights and measure know.
