Knowsley Council's
higher ups will all have access to a nuclear shelter in the event of a nuclear
or perhaps biological or chemical attack. In the 80's. Kirkby Campaign for
Nuclear Disarmament discovered an emergency shelter and planning room at
Kirkby Civic Buildings. No doubt there are other secret facilities;
places were the likes of Jim Keight, pictured above with a nuclear explosion coming out of his skull,
might imagine he can find safety.
Nuclear material being transported or stored in the Borough?
On the 27th Sept 2000, it was bought to the attention of the South Huyton
Community Area Forum that 'Nuclear free Zone' signs were being removed from
entrances to Knowsley. A member of the forum asked "if the Council was aware
of any nuclear material being transported or stored in the Borough, and if an
assurance could be made that the Borough was still a "Nuclear Free Zone".
Very good question and one not publicised much at the time, or since.
Knowsley Council Avoid the Question as usual
The Knowsley Council Director of Planning and Development's representative replied that
"on 1st September a letter had been sent to the member of the public stating that the
"Nuclear Free Zone" signs had been removed as their condition had deteriorated. New
signs had been erected with the omission of the words "Nuclear Free Zone", as it was
felt that as a safety precaution it was advisable that road users should not have
too much information to digest whilst reading road signs."
Pathetic Answer to a serious question
Now remember the question asked and look closely at the answer
given by the un-named Director of Knowsley Council present, he replies….
"With regard to the transportation or storage of nuclear materials the
Council was not aware of any instances of such material being stored within
or transported through the Borough. Should any organisation wish to store
such material in or transport it through the Borough, permission would
need to be sought from the appropriate authority beforehand."
It is not answering the question as to whether nuclear material is being
transported or stored here, and totally fails to answer the question
"is Knowsley still a Nuclear Free Zone". Kirkby Times will be asking this
question again in writing and will not be fobbed off by a pathetic answer
such as the one given to the 'Community Forum' in Huyton.
Anything is possible with Knowsley Council
It is very much a possibility that Nuclear materials are being
either stored or transported through Knowsley, and by the answer given so
far, it seems that Knowsley Council are hiding something. We could be
wrong, but, this is an issue which will NOT be raised in the Knowsley
Challenge or Kirkby Extra, the two pieces of cr*p currently pretending
to be Community Newspapers. Given the current situation with Iraq, the
people of Kirkby and indeed all of Knowsley would like to be assured
we have no nuclear material being stored nearby
