The recent Lib Dem massacre of New Labours heartland constituency
Brent East will surely have shaken our local MP's and those Councillors
who can see which way the tides turning. Let's take a little look back
down memory lane and see how the general election results have worked
out in Knowsley since 1992, a little over a decade.
Knowsley North 1992 General Election results
George Howarth - Lab 27517
Con 5114
Lib Dem 1515
Knowsley North & Sefton East 1997 General Election results.
George Howarth - Lab 34,747
Con 8,600
Lib Dem 5,499
Knowsley North & Sefton East 2001 General Election results.
George Howarth - Lab 25,035 - 67%
Con 6,108 - 16.3%
Lib Dem 5173 - 13.8%
Can you see a pattern there? -Apart from the steady decrease
in votes(10,000 lost at the 2001 Election) it is obvious that George
Howarth is simply living off the last of the 'loyalty votes' - the
last of the working class support for what was once, a long time ago,
perceived as the only party which had the interests of the working
classes at heart. To be a Labour MP or a councillor in Knowsley or
Liverpool was a job for life. You only needed to don the Red Rosette
(or daft Red Rose now) and tell people you were 'Labour'. It's worked
for 50 odd years or more round here - but now it's about to go horribly
wrong. Labour ditched the Working Class in a bid to woo Middle England,
and now the Working Class are staying at home in their droves or using
the Lib Dems as a boot of convenience. Let's look at what just happened
in another so called 'Labour Heartland' a few days ago.
Labour Decimated.
Brent East recently saw a massive New Labour defeat which could
well happen in Knowsley's 2 constituencies. Howarth and O Hara, our
respective (not respected) MP's will be thinking a lot about how they
are going to fare come the next general elections. Things are not 'going
to get better' as Labours theme song told us many moons ago. What was
once the 'unthinkable' is now becoming a reality as millions of working
class people abandon the New Labour Party. Kirkby, once thought of as a
Labour Heartland, is now certain to fall. Kirkby Times has predicted this
New Labour Meltdown - in Tower Hill 13% turned out in one Ward in council
elections.(the more affluent ward of Roby saw 26%) Even the BNP's first time appearance coined in a respectable
10% of the vote. For many people in Kirkby the Lib Dems will be seen
as a convenient boot to kick Howarth and Hara out and many local
councillors. Kirkby Times predicts a massive battle come 2004 when
all Council seats are up for grabs. Lets look at how things have
gone in Brent East for the Lib Dems, where, as in Knowsley,
they were nowhere in the 2001 General Election.
Brent East - 2001 General Election results
Labour: 18,325 - 63.2%
Conservative: 5,278 - 18.2%
Lib Dem: 3,065 - 10.6%
Then we come to the recent Bye Election, which saw an amazing
swing and an indication that the worm has turned for Labour.
Brent East - 2003 Bye Election results
Lib Dem - 8158 - 39.12%
Labour - 7040 - 33.76%
Con -3368 - 16%
Killer Facts…….
In Knowsley North, New Labour had a massive 67% of the votes in 2001,
whilst the Lib Dems had only 13.8%
In Brent East, New Labour had a massive 63% of the votes
in 2001, whilst the Lib Dems had only 10.6%
Conclusion - Both Howarth and O Hara could well lose their
respective Seats in 2005. 10 years ago Howarth would have laughed at
that suggestion - but not now - not anymore.
Time is not on Labours side.
It's only a matter of time before Knowsley Council Labour
Fiefdom is smashed. Only then can we see what damage has
really been done here in Kirkby. In this age of digital democracy
- we have a chance to bring Councillors back into the political
arena of 'debate with the people' where they are answerable to the
constituents. We have a chance to ditch the secrecy and double dealing,
nepotism and pure hypocrisy which has characterised Kirkby's political
scene for too long. The rotten wood needs digging out, and if news is
reported to local people and as much information made public as possible,
we have a chance to make informed choices. Freedom of information is vital
- Kirkby Times isn't looking to break the official secrets act -Just the
Knowsley Council unofficial secrets act. Every vote our Councillors make
should be recorded and made public, very few Councillor have objections
recorded in the matter of Sonae and many other important votes. This
information, when we receive it, will be made public. It is no more
than what we are owed. How else can we decide whether our Councillors
are worth it? If you type YOUR councillors name in our search engine
you can check out the information we have so far. There's a LOT
more to come.
Total Democracy
This website will be digging the dirt on ALL of Kirkby Councillors,
thanks to the few Councillors and insiders who have made the
effort to inform the people. You will not be forgotten, nor
mentioned for the time being! To those Councillors who criticise
this websites right to Free Speech whilst holding back vital
information themselves - You are a disgrace to this Country. The people
of Kirkby must wake up to the rotten deal we have received. We must oust
those responsible and make sure those who replace them are carefully
watched no matter who they are. Councillors who have nothing to hide
will not fear those who watch and observe. Councillors who have nothing
to fear will happily list EVERY vote they have took part in, whether
in Council chambers or on the many outside bodies they have influence
in. The only people who fear Total Democracy are scoundrels.
