Kirkby Times has featured the problem of motorbikes menaces in the community,
and has warned of a serious death or injury being certain to happen.
Local Councilors were alerted, the Police are aware of the problem,
yet it was left to continue. Now we have a 28 yr old local man fighting
for his life after motorbike thieves almost beat him to death.
Friday 25th April 11.00pm
The incident came after a local man was at his home in Kirkby when he
spotted two teenagers riding past on a scooter. He noticed that the scooter
belonged to one of his relatives and went out into St Lawrence Grove to stop
them. The thieves rode away and the man followed them to the junction of
Kersey Road and Broad Lane where the scooter was allegedly dropped on the
victims head. This happened at approx 11.00pm on Friday April the 25th.
Two youth arrested then bailed.
The story only made the papers today Mon April 28th in the Liverpool Echo,
although the incident happened on Friday. The victim is currently on a ventilator
machine in hospital fighting for his life. Two youth aged 15 and 16 have been
arrested over the incident but were bailed almost immediately, not a good sign.
Police carried our door to door enquiries in the area and maybe the CCTV, which
has so far failed to have any impact on local crime, may actually have captured
the incident. It seems unlikely though.
Southdene: Do the lowlife rule the streets?
A good number of people will know the youths responsible for this attack.
There are dozens of youth here involved in stealing and riding scooters and
motorbikes in a reckless manner. This puts the community in considerable
danger, not only from the reckless way in which the bikes are driven. But
also the danger that these youths, if confronted, will resort to kicking the
complainant to death. Southdene has already has a number of attacks by youth
on the community, including beating a taxi driver up and stoning buses and
taxis. It has come to the point were the community simply ignores the anti
social crime, and of course it simply adds to the problem. The Council have
failed us, the Police have failed us and as a young man lies on a ventilator
, his family praying he will recover, Kirkby Times is sadly right in our
prediction that this problem would seriously injure or kill someone. This
website has reported on the fact that local police had given up trying to
chase motorbikes, many of us here have witnessed the Police simply look
the other way as a youth flies past, no helmet, traveling at high speed.
Kirkby Times advised the Police that CCTV costing a million was not as
effective as handing out a few hundred digital cameras to members of the
community. Who listens to common sense these days? Not the police or Council
or Government it would seem.
If we saw this attack coming, why didn't the Council or Police or
any other local organisations not treat this problem with more urgency?
We hope the lad who was the victim of this vicious attack recovers
fully. He tried to stop a couple of thieves and paid a very high price indeed.
He tried to police his own community and elements of the community turned on
him. Why are the good people here not prepared to stand up and be counted?
The 'walk on by' mentality which is becoming more common, is damaging to
the fabric of the community.
Anti Social Thieving Scum
The scum who carried this attack deserve 15 to 20 years. Even
if the Police here manage to catch them, its likely some smart lawyer
will twist the situation and the 'poor lads' will get some sort of legal
slap on the hand. It's about time we got tough in our community on the anti
social thieving scum who prey on us. A lot of this boils down to a lack of respect,
both for ourselves and each other. So far all attempts to unite the Community have
failed. Labour have sat on their backsides for years letting the anti social crime
evolve into the more serious and less easily tackled gangterism. The root of the
problem must be recognised, we need to try to get to these kids as they are evolving
and show them something more worthwhile.
