Here's a First for Kirkby Times - Video with audio commentary.
There are two short videos here, both relating to various problems in
Oak Tower, a Hi Rise block of flats which are being decanted. Despite
the flats being emptied of tenants, the Housing Trust is still obligated
to ensure the safety of tenants and visitors to the flats. These two
videos show that the Housing Trust is disregarding even the most basic
safety measures. Knowsley Housing Trust can make up all the fancy
slogans in the World but they cannot deny the evidence in these two videos.
Lights in Stairway and communal areas off for 72+ hours - lift broke - racist graffiti
The first video shows lighting broken in communal and stairway areas
of the flats, it shows the dangerous situation which has been left
for 4 nights now by Knowsley Housing Trust. This is illegal or
breaking guidelines. We can also see the 13th floor lift with the button
super glued (it's been like that for weeks) plus we can see racist graffiti,
which has been left for at least 2 years - the video ends mid sentence as
I point out the racist graffiti which is a swastika. You can view the video
by clicking on the link below - you can save the video by right clicking
and 'saving as' (file size - 1.4mb only mpeg) If the swastika is not
painted over I will buy a tin of black paint and do it myself and
publish the receipt on here until KHT get rid of it (noted 07 Oct 2003).
Dangerous Steel Security Doors left lying in Tower Block
The second video shows dangerous steel security doors which
are just left lying round the tower block. I explained to Knowsley
Housing Trust how dangerous these doors could be. I informed them
that a young lad had been killed in London in similar circumstances.
At 6pm on Friday September 8 2000, twelve-year-old Christopher
Pullen was innocently playing with friends in a hallway on the
Market Estate in Islington London. Minutes later he lay fatally
injured, having suffered a crushing blow from a falling door.
Five days later he was pronounced dead. A year on, and Christopher's
family had still not received either an apology or explanation for
his death from the owners of the Market estate - Islington council,
or those responsible for managing it - Hyde Northside Housing
Association. Meanwhile, those who continue to live on the
Market estate do so in appalling conditions. More details
on Christopher Pullen and his families ongoing struggle
for Justice
here.(video file size - 0.5mb mpeg)
These videos are in mpeg format which means they will play
in
windows media player or the Mac/Linux etc equivalent.
