Top Goal-Scorer hits the mark!

josh weaver

Congratulations to Josh Weaver of Northwood Kirkby who is the leading goal-scorer for Kirkby Primary Schools. This young Working Class Hero has, according to observers "shown silky skills on the left wing". It's good to see a young lad with natural talent out there on the left wing and we should remember that it is on the school fields and even patches of spare land where the likes of Phil Thompson, Terry Mc Dermott, Tommy Caton and Alan Stubbs learned their game. Josh has a long way to go yet but from all accounts the lad could certainly be one of an emerging new generation of Football Players in the making here in Kirkby.

Josh Weaver had his first season playing upfront so the achievement is one of note. Anyone who has ever watched the kids here play football will know that they put their heart into it, and often work more than the professionals who are not as hungry for the game anymore. The raw talent of Kirkby's Kids is helped along by those who volunteer to run the teams and Kirkby Times would like to say thanks to all involved in training or coaching our kids.

It's getting hard to find somewhere to kick a ball around these days in Kirkby. 20 Years ago we had tons of places and most of us, even if we could hardly kick a ball, would happily join in the games which we organised among ourselves. We need to make sure that our kids here have fields to play on. We need to make sure that money for this area is spent on our kids, securing fields and various sports facilities. It's about time we put our kids first, Kirkby Times will supporting them 100%.
