Kirkby Times will
be running a 'news in brief' report from time to time. A brief round up of all
the stories which never made the front pages. You can help by e-mailing in any
reports of what's happening in Kirkby.
January news in brief………
Not all incidents are dated as this section is only just beginning
and will hopefully be more accurate with dates and times in the future. Some
details have been given in confidence, where victims of crime do not
wish to be identified.
Sneak theft of some £150 from a house in Northwood. The victim,
a single mother, only noticed the loss the following day.
The theft could have been anyone of a number of younger people,
some possibly invited into the house by a younger family member
in the house. Calling the Police would have meant 5 or 6 interviews.
Possibly more as there were other visitors who the Police may well
have had to ask questions of. Parents of any kids involved may well
have taken a visit by the Police the wrong way. Should the person
involved have simply rang around all the Mothers or Fathers of
the kids who would be in the suspect line? Being realistic, the
Police here are not going to dedicate the man hours necessary
to investigate each incident. The person(s) who took the money
are lowlife.
Possible attempted break in, Northwood. A house had a section of window
broken near the window latch. Knowsley Housing Trust came out to put a board
up, but the householder paid out of their own pocket to get a glazier to do
a proper job. The pensioner whose home it was is worried that burglars may
have targeted the house and been frightened off by a dog. If it was burglars.
You are anti social scum.
Local shop worker had car stolen. Later found smashed up in Northwood.
A spate of handbag thefts in the town Center
has been reported. Some Pubs and Clubs have had a few customers'
purses go AWOL. Be careful out there. The people robbing off their
own should be ashamed of themselves.
Car stolen from Local Community Organisation. The Thief, captured on CCTV, took a set
of keys and proceeded to steal the car, apparently leaving a
trail of evidence which Kirkby's Police may well unravel. The Police waited days before they
actually collected the CCTV tape
Local man receives Jail sentence with reports of a miscarriage of
justice. The case may be publicised here and will show us what we all
know. The law is a joke.
Vandalism in local tower Blocks, plus drug users (heroin)
12 yr old was bitten by a dog in Northwood needing 8 stitches.
The dog's owner contacted the Police and the dog will be 'screened'
by local Police to assess whether it is dangerous.(update, over a month
later the dog remains 'unscreened')
12/5 Club in Southdene goes up in flames. Firemen spent
two hours battling the blaze and it is suspected that
the blaze was started deliberately. Both the Molly and
The Peacock were hit with petrol bombs last year.
Stolen Cars: Last Winter saw record numbers of stolen cars,
the usual Winter break being as busy as the summer peak season at
times. The CCTV has been up long enough to make an impact, but
has anyone really noticed a reduction in cars screeching through
the streets?
Armed robbery at Kirkby Railway Station. No description
as to what the weapon was, or whether the worker at the station
was injured, or how much was taken.
There's been a verdict in the Murder trial relating to
Tommy draper who was killed last year in Westvale.
One man has been found guilty and will be sentenced
later this year. You can search the Liverpool Echo database
by typing in 'Kirkby murder'.
Loan Sharks: There are a number of legitimate companies who operate in
Kirkby, mostly by loaning smallish sums for extortionate
interest rates. Whilst they are legal companies, it does not
mean they are doing the right thing. They are actually
parasites and should be avoided like the plague. Join the local credit union.

Mc Donald's Litter on the increase! Local Councillors should
approach Mc Donald's and ask them politely to donate enough
money to enable an extra couple of street cleaners to be taken
onboard. The Mc Donald's litter is everywhere; even the seagulls
are eating Mc Burger scraps. Mad Gull disease? The Kirkby Times
Mc Rubbish gallery will be updated soon so you can check out
the proof!
Knowsley Councils Jim Keight appears in local paper The
Echo to complain that a planned retail park in Gilmoss would
take customers from Kirkby town Center. Nice to see Keight
concerned about traders in the Town Center. Hold on though,
aren't Knowsley just upset because they already want to do
something similar here? Would Jim Keight actually tell Tesco
to 'do one' if they offered to buy the vacant patch of land(currently being used as an illegal car park)
by the Town Center in Kirkby? Sour Grapes anyone?
CCTV's in Northwood seem to be working. Noticed the lack of crime
lately? Or are things just the same? Verdict to be announced as we get
the figures in for arrests this year.
Have you had an accident lately? That's the No 1 question that
certain legal firms hanging round the streets and Town Center seem
to ask us. Accident Direct and others like them are a nuisance. If
you need legal advice, see a solicitor in the Town Center, anyone
with any good things to say about solicitors here can get in touch
prompt.
