A Letter to MR GALLAGHER our Chief Executive
Thank you for your reply to my last e-mail in which I asked if you could help Neil
Turner in the monitoring of the Sonae Factory.
You state in your reply that the plant operates within the "statutory
limits" laid down under the" environmental protection act 1990 and guidance
documents" could you please be more open with me and tell me the exact parts
of the act you are referring to and guidance guidelines and if possible send
me copies of the said documentation as this would help me understand what
you are using as your precedent.
You also state that the monitoring of the plant is carried out on a "regular basis" and
to an "agreed accredited procedure". does this mean that your officers have to
ask Sonae for permission to go on site and take the reading?, I think this
is the agreed procedure, this is not in my humble opinion,
independent, this is like the police knowing that a gang of drug dealers
are operating in a house and then telling them they will be raided on
a given time and date, I don't think the police would find much drugs do you?
After reading your reply it would seem that you are totally
oblivious to just what is happening in the Sonae plant, and frankly
I don't think you care, the e-mail reads like looking at an instruction
manual for M.F.I furniture, totally misleading - you know -' this is how
it should be but if its not then oh well never mind '.
I have been told on many occasions that the council would need
evidence if it was to take action against the Sonae and I have requested
that the council take independent reading of the contamination that is
released by the Sonae, and I know the Sonae do not have to let the
council onto there property, but this does not mean the council can
not implement there monitoring from outside.
I also understand making the main chimney stack higher 'might'
reduce the stench from the plant, but if it does not COMPLETELY remove the
stench them it should be deemed to be a failure and shut down until it can
prove it can operate without the stench being released over Kirkby.
But in the mean time the people of Northwood are still being contaminated
with the dust from the plant this has been going on since the plant opened and
nothing has been done to stop the contamination, it should not matter if the dust
is causing the people of Kirkby to get sick or for their eyes, nose and throat to
sting, the fact is they are being covered in the dust! This is an affront to their
and my own basic human rights and you - the Council of Knowsley - the people who
have taken the money and life style and the positions - are not doing anything to
stop the contamination.
I have noticed in the "LIVERPOOL ECHO" that you and your closest friends
have been given a 15% pay rise, this would make your salary rise to £153,000 plus.
This is sickening when you think of it, well maybe not to you, but for the ordinary
people of Kirkby. May I remind you that you and your closest friends are in Kirkby
and not London, you do not have the cost of living associated with London and the
position you hold should not carry a salary of that magnitude, and if you or your
closest friends don't like the very great honour that has been bestowed on yourselves,
that is to represent the people of Knowsley, then by all means please leave, your
positions are privileged, and should not be used to make you and your closest friends
rich men.
The jobs you and your closest friends hold can be filled, and the work
would be done, with or without you and your closest friends and it would not
cost the tax payers of Knowsley as much.
Mr Gallagher, if you cared for the Knowsley community, you and your
closest friends would reject the pay award and ask the forgiveness of the
people of Knowsley for your total disregard of the Knowsley peoples feelings,
on the way you and your closest friends conduct yourselves.
yours
Joe
