The Gutter Rag Sun (SCUM) Tabloid has put another nail into the
coffin of its circulation figures by insulting the mentally ill in
its latest outrage. The Suns First edition carried the headline "Bonkers
Bruno Locked Up" above a story that labelled him a "nut". As the first
editions of the Sun rolled off the presses last night, internet forums were
seizing on the story with contributors calling for another boycott of the
paper and direct action. Angry callers phoned and emailed BBC Radio 5 Live
to support the former boxer and call for a boycott of the tabloid, with some
claiming it could prove to be another "Hillsborough" for the Sun. Here in
Kirkby those of with any sense have long boycotted that sick gutter rag
- Kirkby Times appeals for local people to continue support and promote
the boycott. This means local community organisations and Unions clamping
down on this sick joke of rag - its only here to dumb us down. Local mental
health workers are invited to give their opinions on this matter. We must
make sure Knowsley Council continue to ban this rag from the libraries
here. Yes, even after so long it's still banned in Kirkby Library,
god help anyone who tries to overturn this.
Psychiatric Nurse hits out at Scum
Kirkby Times was alerted to the story just after Midnight on Sept 23
when a psychiatric nurse from Wales contacted us with the following email.

I am not often driven to write complaint letters but quite frankly the headline in today's
Sun beggar's belief and it has left me nauseous and shocked.
My personal opinion of your so-called newspaper is already somewhere
in the vicinity of the gutter, but I feel that the headline "Bonkers
Bruno Locked Up" is a disgrace. It left me speechless.
As a psychiatric nurse my concern is not just with Frank Bruno, his family
and his children - but with other people in this country who have a mental
health problem.
It is so annoying that your putrid rag pretends to be a champion of what is
right in this country. I do believe you have no respect for the people of
this country at all. All you care about is making a profit by insulting
individuals and making up news stories.
It seems to me that you feel that people are only normal if they are white,
straight, married and have no genetic defects of any kind. You might
pretend that this is "Britishness" - I think of it as fascism!
I hope you are heavily censured and fined for this and the journalist who
thought of this senseless headline sacked.
I realise that my trying to persuade 6 million people not to buy your shitty
paper will be difficult. But I will try my best.

How to complain to the Press Complaints Commission.
To complain to the press complaints commission you need to go
to the website which is
here. Once there you will
see a green box with
the heading 'making a complaint' - move your cursor over this box and
you will see 4 options appear - we choose 'Complaint Form' and click
on it. A form will appear. You need to fill out the date - your name
- your address - your email and state which newspaper you are
complaining over, the publication date and the headline. Were
complaining about the Sun - or SCUM as we call it here. Make
sure you fill out all the correct fields of the complaint will
not be recognised. You can open up another window in internet
explorer as it will save you struggling to fill the form in.

the code of conduct has been breached and which specific clause in the
code of conduct you think is being
breached. I chose to complain using this clause,

race, colour, religion, sex or sexual orientation or to any physical
or mental illness or disability. You may also choose to add subsection ii]
It must avoid publishing details of a person's race, colour,
religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or
disability unless these are directly relevant to the story.
You can simply copy and paste the relevant info into the
complaints form. They ask for a copy of the headline to
be sent as an attachment but this is unnesesary as the PCC and everyone else is aware of this headline. If you copy the
text below and paste it into the complaints form -
the PCC can simply click on your link to see the
photo. This is important - they are likely to ignore
thousands of complaints if this is not done. Below
is the full text that you should copy into the complaints
form at the very bottom of the form. Only use the text
between the two red lines.
I wish to complain over the degrading insults published by the
Sun Newspaper on the 23rd Sept 2003 against Frank Bruno.

Do you know anyone mentally ill? - If so - boycott this fuc**ng rag.
Look at the people who are reading this paper - the word dim comes
to mind. Any Sun readers who think they aren't dim are invited to
submit 1000 words telling us all about it. My spellchecker is already
groaning in protest. On Second thoughts - don't bother - 1000 words of
crap is wasting my time and the readers.
A special thanks to ALL those in Kirkby and anywhere who
look after the mentally ill whether as a profession or a
family duty. To anyone mentally ill or suffering from mental
problems - good luck - most of us will suffer at some point
- and for the Sun to kick Bruno and indeed all those suffering
mental problems is appalling insensitivity - but the SCUM know
all about appalling insensitivity - it's their trademark.
