Knowsley Primary Care Trust has decided to let the children of Knowsley poison themselves by putting fluoride in the milk given to school children. The decision was taken by Knowsley Primary Care Trust with the Government pushing them in this insane scheme. They are, in effect, giving children a toxic poison which seems to lie somewhere between arsenic and lead. In the USA, toothpaste which contains fluoride has a warning that clearly states "In case of accidental ingestion,[of fluoride] seek professional assistance or contact a poison centre immediately." Dr Diane Forrest (away to the woods) told the Liverpool Echo (Fri Nov 21 2003) that "Dental Milk, which has fluoride added, is now being drunk by 4,568 children out of a population of 25,000 people under 18 living in Knowsley"

More proof of the poverty in Knowsley.

The condition of people's teeth is a good indicator of there standard of living - it is in effect a 'poverty test' and those regions with a lot of tooth decay are likely to be working class areas where the weekly income means that a lot of the food fed to our kids is processed crap. The UK national statistics for decayed teeth in under 5's shows that Kirkby's kids, have on average 4 rotten teeth whilst the average number of decayed teeth in children nationally is 1.46. This is another indicator of Knowsley Councils ability to put the people of Kirkby in danger; they are trying to bring the figures of tooth decay down by the cheapest and most dangerous method possible. Investing in more dental care is too expensive and Knowsley Council, knowing that young families are on the increase- has taken this long term plan to heart. Why pay for more dentists when we can fluoridate the milk? Feeding toddlers in a nursery school on this fluoridated milk is typical of the Council here. Half the Councillors have likely have not got the first clue about fluoride or the dangers it presents. What do we expect from the di**heads who bought us Sonae?

Dentists - Can we trust them?

The British Dental Association receives money from the toothpaste industry for endorsing fluoride-based products. Dentists, like doctors and lawyers, judge themselves and regulate their own 'industry'. Dentists have got it made. Whilst local dentists may be decent people, the Dental Association is a Middle Class organisation and none of their children live in areas where poverty exists. Despite the fact that poverty is a political issue - we never hear dentists pointing out that its working class people who are more likely to suffer from tooth decay and raising a fuss. How many dentists in Kirkby back the Primary Care Trusts Fluoride in Milk scheme?

You retain about half of all the fluorides to which you are exposed to.

In Sept 2003 the UK Govt paved the way for dumping more of this chemical in our water supply. The main health problem is that all of us are ingesting TOO MUCH fluoride from all sources: no-one knows how much fluoride we are already ingesting and exposures must be minimised. We are exposed to fluorides from a range of sources: eg environmental pollutants in the air, in certain foods and beverages (eg fish, tea), conventional dental products, eg toothpaste, drops, tablets, gels and some medications etc. If our drinking water supplies are fluoridated as well, the burden on our bodies will increase. It's worth remembering that we retain about half of all the fluorides to which we are exposed. The rest is stored, mainly in bones, which become more dense, but more brittle. Other organs, such as the thyroid gland are also seriously affected.

High Sugar Content

Parents should question what their children are eating and drinking - take a look at what most people here are eating and you will soon realise that a lot of children are eating a diet of high sugar content. Kids have always ate sweet things, but nowadays we can often find that food is high in sugar and all sorts of nasty chemicals. The food industry deliberately puts sugar and artificial sweeteners in foods and drink to hook children into persuading their parents to buy the products. Artificial sweeteners, whilst they may not damage teeth, are made from chemicals which have their own serious long term consequences. If your kids are drinking soft drinks, they are drinking poisons. What message does Aintree Hospital send when they install vending machines packed with sugary crap?

Processed food is crap.

Parents whose children are being fed the contaminated milk should take the dental care of their children more seriously. It's the ultimate lazy parent who would slip a dubious chemical in the kid's milk just to save them the bother of making sure they clean their teeth and don't eat too much crap. Many parents may claim they have little time for cooking 'proper food' - but it only takes 5 mins to peel some vegetables and 20 mins or so to boil them. Sadly, home cooking with fresh ingredients has become almost a thing of past. Relying on processed food is one of the main causes of rotten teeth.

Why not give the kids an apple instead of dangerous chemicals in Milk?

The schools, instead of feeding chemicals to the toddlers, should be working hand in hand with local health authorities and checks could be done at intervals to catch the kids whose parents may not bother to teach their children proper dental hygiene. The Schools in Knowsley should immediately stop the sale of coca cola and other sugary crap filled drinks they sell - yes - the kids will drink them outside school no doubt - but not in school. Instead of giving the kids a dangerous chemical we would be better giving them an apple and a regular appointment at the dentist - parents who don't take kids every 6 months for a check up should be forced to do so.

Knowsley Primary Care Trust is a disgrace. They are poisoning the children of Kirkby because it's the cheapest option. Putting fluoride in milk without consulting the parents is a highly irresponsible and perhaps an illegal move. Welcome to democracy in Knowsley. Thanks to Knowsley's Councillors as ever for their total lack of interest in yet another major issue involving our children.

Parents - you DO have a choice!

If you are a parent and your child is being fed this crap - ask your school to provide plain milk and ask what programs they have in place to ensure that dental hygiene is promoted properly in nursery and primary schools. If you have NOT been asked permission for your child to take part in this experiment, you should complain the strongest possible terms to your school and the Primary Care Trust. The dangers to your child from fluoride are made worse as you are allowing them to begin building up a level of this poison from an early age - they have NO choice and you are likely ignorant of the facts regarding fluoride because they are being covered up.

Allowing our children to take part in this experiment is reckless, foolhardy and simply a cheap alternative to Knowsley Primary Care Trust providing proper dental care to the community.
