Aintree Hospital, formerly Fazackerley Hospital, has announced
that the Maternity Ward, opened in 1969, is to be closed. Regional Health
Chiefs made the shock announcement on the 26th June. A bunch of unelected
beaurocrats made the decision despite the fact it will mean Women in Kirkby
will now have to go to Toxteth in the event of giving birth - if they make it
there that is. The dangers are obvious - anyone needing treatment in a hurry
will have to travel further. It also destroys one more community service which
Kirkby women have enjoyed for over 3 decades.
This is another slap in the face to the people of Kirkby and Liverpool,
and it's about time we stood up to the people who make these decisions which
affect our lives. The NHS itself is being destroyed by the politicians and
idiotic management and greedy middle class doctors and consultants. Now
they are going to destroy a perfectly good service because they think it's
a good idea and can likely save some more money to award themselves even bigger
pay rises. These people need teaching a lesson.
Kirkby will be greatly affected by this insane decision -
years ago we had the nurses from the maternity ward with yet another
petition in the Town Centre here and in Liverpool, most of us signed it
- but what use are petitions when our government can just take them in
at the front door of Downing Street and throw them out in the bins round
the back? We have to do something - the struggle to maintain decent services
is up to us all - and the fight has to once again become a fight. Soon enough
we'll be forced to fight back.
Below, some of the workers who helped make the NHS a success
only to see a good idea twisted into another profit motivated venture.
Remember, this is New Labour who are behind this move, remember that
the next time George Howarth pretends to care about us here in Kirkby
and Knowsley. If we vote Howarth in again - we need our heads testing.
Just to back up the theory of the lunatics taking over the asylum,
it is revealed that more managers than doctors were hired by the NHS last
year - this is revealed in new Government figures. The number of bureaucrats
soared by 17.8% with 4,900 extra managers joining the health service. That
can be compared with the 4,000 extra doctors employed by the NHS.
