Community Police and the Motorbike Menances

cop in street with motorbike stunt rider

Kirkby had a number of Police drafted in today (March 17) as part of an ongoing attempt to tackle the anti social crime which has beset the area. Kirkby times spotted at least 4 policemen and women who were patrolling on foot in the Northwood area near Roughwood School. Patrols have been stepped up of late due to the violent clashes between rival gangs based in schools, as reported exclusively here on Kirkby Times.

Motorbike Menaces

Kirkby Times has also highlighted the Motor bike Menaces here, mainly lads in their teens or early 20's who think doing wheelies at 60mph down residential streets is 'cool'. Whilst many people here use motorbikes in a responsible manner, it has to be said that some are idiots who are a danger to themselves and the community. A lot of these lads are very skilled at riding the motorbikes, it's a shame their talent is not given an outlet on a speed track somewhere.

2 Cops and a Bike!

As one of the Kirkby Times contributors was talking to two community coppers (he was shocked to actually see two police walking) a motorbike pulls up, no-one wearing crash helmets and off jumps the pillion passenger with a crate of lager! This was approx 5 to 10 feet from the community cops! A chance to police the community! What happened then is unclear, I think the motorbike would have likely driven off, the driver not wishing to exchange pleasantries with the Police, or discuss road safety. This was approx 3.00pm or so.

More Motorbike Madness

Yesterday, reports to Kirkby Times highlighted the problem of reckless motorbike driving along Westhead Avenue and all roads leading off from it. One car driver reported a 'youth doing a wheelie at approx 50 or 60mph along Scoter Road. Another witness saw a motorbike with the driver and two girls aged 16 or so as pillion passengers.

Stolen Cars almost back in season

Stolen Cars will increase in number as the traditional 'winter break' is over. Only last week, there was a number of cars being driven at high speed, including one very fast BMW which tore along residential roads at approx 100mph. We publish below a photo of a typical residential road in Kirkby, which, as you can see, is a death trap for kids. Any driver doing more than 10 or 20 mph along such roads are risking knocking over a child. Do they care? Perhaps we should take anyone convicted of speeding to view the autopsy of a road traffic 'accident' victim.

CCTV = Useless

Kirkby Times has stated that the funding of the CCTV here has so far bore little fruit. How many convictions do we have so far which are based on such video evidence? Knowsley Council refuse to say, the Police and even the Home office has so far released no figures atall. CCTV may well have its place in say protecting our schools ect, but the CCTV currently monitoring Kirkby's streets seems to have not had any effect. Locals monitoring the CCTV report that it is controlled by computer and the movements of individual CCTV cameras do not mean anyone is looking. In some areas in the UK, the cameras are linked up with face recognition technology. Ultimately, relying on CCTV means giving up control of our own community, it means that we have given up being a community, we no longer tell off kids being rowdy, and we walk past the neighbours 14yr old kid smoking weed with his friends instead of dragging him home for a good talking to. We fit burglar alarms, take out insurance if we can afford it, and we become a passive audience to the destruction of our communities.

3 little idiots!

Today, the 18 March 2003, a group of 3 young kids. Aged no more than 11 or 12, thought it highly amusing to throw a half brick at someone walking down Westhead Avenue. (It'll be the buses again soon) When the person who the brick was aimed (it missed) at told them he'd 'tell their mums', they simply said 'f**k off', at a distance of course. It is likely the parents of these kids would be upset if someone accused them of being anti social. Keep your eye out for any little toe-rags throwing stones at buses etc; Kirkby Times has advised local authorities that the purchase of a few dozen digital cameras would nail these little pains. How 'cool' would they look if posters of them were put up locally? As Kirkby Times has stated before, these kids are at a very important stage in life were life patterns of behavior will be established. Nonetheless those who do persist in making life a misery for the community must be dealt with by the community.
