Pupils in Roughwood School smashed up
a classroom yesterday (01 July), no reason is given for the outburst of violence, but
it seems to be just one in a long series of violent incidents in schools here. The incident
happened on Monday June the 30th - whether the teacher was in the classroom when
the incident happened is unclear - but once a mob of 14 yr olds kick off it can be dangerous.
A parent told Kirkby Times that the 'classroom was trashed good-style'
Knowsley schools have bad reputation
Schools in Knowsley don't seem to have a good reputation. Only recently an 11 yr old
primary schoolboy was found with drugs, plus we have had numerous incidents where various
schools fight each other. The level of violence is frightening, some of these kids are
getting tooled up with weapons, and this includes some of the older girls.
Dumbing down a generation of kids
It boils down to two issues - personal responsibility - and Government funding
of an adequate Education system. The Government are deliberately under-funding
schools because - let's face it - why would they want a generation of highly
educated working class youth? Dumb them down is the solution - and this means
providing the bare minimum of funding for Working Class Schools. The Government
are lying to you when they say there is NOT enough money to educate your kids.
They can find Billions to bomb another Country but can't find enough money to
train and fund enough teachers to allow class sizes to be reduced greatly.
30 kids a class is a joke - the teacher will barely have time to get to
know the names - and many intelligent kids who are simply going through
a bad time are failed by the system because the teachers cannot cope.
Teacher, Governors and our councillors should all fight the Government
for more resources - if this means striking - so be it. It's about time
we actually fought for our kids - 30 a class is a recipe for disaster
- 15 is more realistic - many private schools have less than 10 in a
class. We can no longer allow the educational apartheid to continue -
the Middle Classes are being educated for all the good jobs - then
after gaining a degree in some nonsense or other, they end up coming
to Kirkby to mess things up as beaurocrats and managers - we need
local people with these skills and that means educating them.
More money needed for schools
No-one can excuse kids smashing up a classroom - but how many of us
here in Kirkby have stood up to try and fight for these kids before they
lose the plot? The few real bad apples can be dealt with IF we allocate the
resources- kids often go off the rail a bit in teenage years - but personal
responsibility works two ways. The Government must plough more money into
the schools. They have a primary responsibility to adequately fund our
children education.
