Alert to the community

charity or con

Kirkby Times has received reports of a possible attempt to defraud people in the Kirkby Area by people claiming to be working for a Charity called 'Retrain the Blind' allegedly connected to the RNIB (Royal Institute for the Blind) Kirkby Times can find no trace of this charity either on 'google' a search engine, or the Charities Commission website. The people who knocked on doors had no official literature such as leaflets etc to leave people.

The 'charity workers' were reported seen knocking at roads around Westhead Avenue, Northwood, one person who answered the door to the Workers reported them as being 'dressed in smart suits' and also asking for bank details off people to facilitate making donations. Extremely suspicious. They were also wearing laminated ID Badges, but its easy to knock them up on a computer. They knocked at some houses at 9.00pm on Tuesday the 18th March and this alone is suspicious. Even if there was a registered charity, to knock at houses at 9.00pm at night is a disgrace.

A person who answered the door told us that the men 'asked were there any elderly or disabled etc we should not knock at'. We should all be vigilant in our community and always question and get details off any charity workers who may knock door to door. This is the sort of incident the 'community cops' should be coming down hard upon. Most of us are not going to phone the Police, but there are always exceptions. People who rob houses in Kirkby are Scum, I think the local gangsters and the police would agree on that one.

Be vigilant of any suspicious activities involving people who pose as charity workers etc. Keep an eye on Elderly Neighbours and the vulnerable.

Please send all details of any anti community anti social crime to Kirkby Times.
