The past couple of months has seen a sharp increase in the number of stolen cars being driven around Kirkby. Below is a story of one such incident and the possible consequences. Not that the Idiots driving at such high speeds will care.

Below Photo, apparently there's a 20 MPH Limit in Northwood Kirkby. That'll stop the Car Robbers then, won't it?

On the 26th of August, at approximately 10.30pm, the Kirkby times Photographer was riding a bicycle along Westhead Avenue. The Bike had lights at front and back, to enable oncoming traffic and traffic approaching behind to see me. Normally i would NOT ride on this road due to stolen cars or legitimate ones which disregard the 20 mph limit. The road seemed quiet so i decided to stay off the pavement and proceed down the Road. I then noticed a cars headlights traveling towards me from the direction of the Moleneux Pub. There was not much noise, the Car must have been finely tuned,and for a brief moment i was stunned at how fast it was approaching toward me! All of a sudden a few people screamed out, dozens of kids and teenagers were hanging around. I took my bike to the gutter and threw it, and myself to the ground as the stolen Car whizzed by with feet to spare. I could feel the wind as it went by. In Pursuit a few seconds behind, was a Police Car, the speed of the chase will no doubt be reported in some cops book there but i would swear that it was approaching 100 mph, possibly over. I was shaken after the incident

After the Car went past me, it then skidded to a halt near Kramer Walk having gained valuable seconds on the pursuing Police. A person then ran from the car, followed closely by a Cop. Within minutes, more cops arrived, I counted a total of 7 cop cars, most haven't a clue about the local areas shortcuts and escape routes and odds are that a determined local escaping the attentions of the Police will be sucessfull.

The Picture above shows one of hundreds of Roadhumps which have been threw up by some lucky contractor. There has been no consultation as to whether people thought the humps would stop the Stolen Cars. The problem here is mainly with people driving other peoples cars recklessly. We do have Idiots like any Town has who drive their own cars in a dangerous manner but all in all most drivers here only put the pedal to the metal when on a Motorway. Car robbing has been going on here since the 70's and most of those doing so care little about the poor bloke who they have thieved it from. Many are prepared to endanger the lives of anyone walking a street(or riding a bike)and their activities WILL kill someone pretty soon. Maybe then, as they lie in a cell, and some child or innocent person lies on a slab, will they realise the error of their ways. The people of Kirkby must be protected from this danger, the Police often add to the danger in high speed chases and their tactic of pursuing the Car Robbers at such speeds in a built up area may need to be revised. What is needed is for local Councillors to KNOW the people who are currently out there robbing cars. Given the lack of a Community Center and the determination of the Council in filling all green spaces with concrete, its no surprise Car Robbing has become such a popular pastime again.

It Just Never Stops!

After taking the picture of the burning car( a gallery of stolen cars will appear soon!)another incident occurred on Westhead Avenue at approx 3.30pm. This time, the cops were out in force, check out the picture of the Merseyside Police helicopter below hovering over Northwood,likely taking a series of high resolution photographs of us all, community policing you see!



The incident this time seemed to center round the ownership of a scooter being driven by one of the locals. The Police were out in force,once again, as is usual, none are local, and many based here for a few months experience of life at the deep end. The Police Force have such an appalling relationship with many communities that it would be too dangerous for a copper to risk living in the area they police. Ideally the Police here should be Kirkby People, but for that to happen there would need to be many changes in how the Police are perceived by working class people. The Police are, as it stands, an armed mob who are always there to protect the property of the rich. The Miners strike of 1984 showed some of the Police to be prepared to KILL the British Mining Industry for their pay masters, the Government. Never ever let us forget the Polices behavior at covering up the deaths of the 96 football fans killed at Hillsborough. An individual Cop may well be ok, BUT, the mob they work for is often rotten to the core.Kirkby Times would however like to hear off any local coppers or coppers based in Kirkby, hopefully without being read our rights first! Kirkby Times may well be critical of the Police at times but nevertheless any local coppers are welcome to put their side of what its like to come to a town like Kirkby.
