April 15th 1989:Hillsborough Football Disaster.
The Hillsborough Football Disaster killed 96
Men, Women and Children and many more through the devastation it caused to those who were there and those at home who lost loved ones.
The Politicians don't want to know, the Police are continuing to Cover Up the events and both the F.A. and Sheffield Wednesday have
somehow escaped any legal proceedings for their obvious mis-management of the days tragic events. This section will try to keep regular updates
and try to keep you informed as to any way in which you can help. Please support this struggle.Forget about your political beliefs,
we gotta unite in this one.
Were you at the game on the 15th April 1989?, if so you could have valuable evidence which may well help the Families and survivors. A lot of you may well have given evidence
but surprise surprise a lot of it will have been destroyed by solicitor's looking to avoid awkward questions, or the Police themselves.Justice must prevail.
If you were there, you may even be a Policeman or one of the emergency workers, please please get in touch with the Hillsborough Justice Campaign
. You may be a survivor or rescuer, please don't suffer in silence, come forward. I guarantee you will feel a whole lot better for it. Get in touch!
I wasn't there at Hillsborough, but my old man was, luckily he came home, but i think a part of every Liverpool Fan died along
with the 96 that day back in 89. The day itself was a beautiful day. The fans of both Nottingham Forest and Liverpool
were looking forward to a great day out. An FA Cup semi final, a sunny calm day, a relatively short Journey
along a scenic route.A day that felt good to be alive. It seems like yesterday.
The Fans from Kirkby were there as usual in numbers. We have a big following up here for the 'Reds'
More so in the 80's when the admission prices were such that a lot of kids would soon become regulars
I spent many a happy Saturday afternoon and evening standing first in the boys pen, then the 'Kop' and the 'Annie Rd'.
A group of us kids from Kirkby would travel down to the game,a few pence on the bus, you kind of felt grown up when you were first allowed to
go to the game on your own. What's more, it was affordable for working class people to send kids to the Football.
I never went to Hillsborough, if i had, you may not be reading this. As someone who stood on the Kop, next to the lads and girls who were killed,
I feel I have every right to speak out against this Injustice. All too often we see our History re written, it happened in the case of Hllsborough, the lies
snow balled to a point where we have a full blown cover up. We've come to a point now where most of us accept that the powers that be are corrupt. However,
it would be a mistake to let this carry on as it encourages the kind of society whereby Politicians and others responsible for safety matters, have no accountability when it goes wrong.
We then wait for the next 'accident', be it at a football ground, on a train courtesy of Railtrack or anywhere were the public need to rely on others to ensure their
safety and well being.
All too often profits come before people's safety, thats why we still need to pursue legal
actions against all who collectively deny that responsibility. In the case of Hillsborough, we let them all off the hook.
The police, walked away as per usual, Sheffield Wednesday walked away without a full and major investigation of their role in the events. The F.A. also, many believe, avoided any real investigations.
No one offered to resign, they weren't seriously questioned on how it come to be that they chose a run down death trap of a stadium to
host a major sporting event.Hillsborough is not just about the Deaths of the 96,or the bereaved and injured. It is in many ways a symbol of all that is wrong and rotten in our society,it shows how the law has nothing atall to do with Justice
and it reminds us that no matter what fine words the politicians mouth,we live in a society where the powers that be cheat, lie and steal there way to knighthoods.
The Injustice's we allow now will come back and haunt us ten fold. I'm just saying that we can make a difference here.
This article is dedicated to Maureen Church,
John Harrison, Joe Glover Alfie Langley and Billy Williams. They were a few good people who tried to fight for Justice for the 96 and the
survivors.
May they rest in peace.
Please support the Hillsborough Justice Campaign by becoming a member and getting involved in events.
Anyone from Kirkby who wishes to contribute any articles here is most welcome, any survivors
or bereaved or anyone there that day is welcome to use this space to relate their experiences.
